What helps you when you are down or stressed
Hey Ladies,
Just thought I would put it out there.........you know me. There seems to be quite a few posts lately stating how people are depressed, sad, lonely, upset, stressed and all the other feelings and emotions we have to deal with in our lives either from just general life or because of the dreaded breast cancer.
I thought I would start by saying I have been going through an ongoing tough time now for a couple of years, with one thing or another and it was while I was doing my six weeks of hyperbaric chamber every day that I had time to think. I decided I needed to do something to try and turn my life around.
I have started what some people call a "visualisation board" but mine isn't so much 'what I want from life' - mine is more of 'what should I be grateful, happy, feeling lucky and all those things that we need to feel to get through every day To feel good and happy.
I have photos of all my loved ones starting with my husband, my BCNA beastie, my daughter and precious grandaughter and other special people in my life. I have things that make me smile, I have words of encouragement of which one is very special as it is a pink sister picture with "Michele Be Strong" which I definitely needed every single day I did the hyperbaric. I have to thank Donna from Dubbo for this one.
Some of the quotes are things like:
- "Every day in every way I am getting better and better" "
- "I have decided to be happy because it is good for my health"
- "Be someone you want to be around"
I really find this helps me get through my days every day. I also have one very special verse that Janey235 wrote for me that I cherish and I make sure I read it every day.
I have started Yoga once a week and I try to Meditate most days but the hardest part with that is not falling asleep.....hahahahaha
I hope this helps and hopefully I have opened the path for other Ladies to come forward with what they do to help themselves get through their bad, sad and stressful days. In return we can maybe help some of our other pink sisters that are doing it tough.
Lots of love today, tomorrow and always,
Mich

Hey Sue
It was soooo luvly to get to meet you at our Perth Womens get together.
I have heard about that meditation. Unfortunately it falls at the time I go to my fantastic Yoga in Gooseberry Hill. I need to look at going to yoga Monday mornings and come to the meditation. I bet it is fantastic.
Thanks for putting it out there.
Hope to catch up with you at the Next Perth Get Together.

Hi Sara, I had the same issues as you with my first psychologist, just did not seem to be able to help. I found a psychologist that her field is in helping cancer patients, wow what a difference she has made. I found her through the hospital where you have chemo. I did not have chemo myself.
One thing she taught me that has helped me when I start to get worried and think about it coming back and what may happen in the future is. Pick a time in the day say 4pm can be anytime and when you start to worry say its not 4pm yet can not think about it and most off the time it really works and by the time 4pm comes around have forgot about it. If it is still on your mind at that time allow yourself 10mins to think about it and then after that you push it aside till that time the following day.
Find something each day that makes you happy. Mine is spending time with my Grandchildren, do not have time to think about anything. They bring me so much joy.
Where do you live?. This cancer psychologist is in Newcastle.
Hope this helps.
Debbie

You are so right Tracy. A smile is amazing. When you smile at someone in the street or at the post office or in the doctors surgery and they manage a smile back it is only something little but it is a special something little I reckon.
You are right also - when I smile for whatever reason and hubby or daughter are around they are very curious about what I am smiling about and that makes them wonder hee hee. Luv it.
Keep that smile happenin my pink sisters out there. It really does make a difference to everyone.
Luv u lots, Mich xoxoxoxoxo

Hey Sally
It is okay to have down days huny. We all do and I have certainly had my share.
I am so glad this post has had a positive effect on you.
Another lil idea is when you get down besides having vision boards put nice pics or videos on your phone and computer and have a look at them. Have funny things that will make you laugh. Play happy music. Just try whatever you can to snap yourself out of it if you want to.
Down days are okay as long as the next day you are feeling a bit better. It is when those down days continue that you need to worry.
Good luck hun, thinking of you, Mich xoxoxoxox
- sallywMemberThanks Mich for starting this blog. I am having a really bad down day and now that I have read through this blog, I am starting to feel a little bit better. I have been positive most of the way through my treatment but every now and again I get really down. I will try to have happy thoughts for the rest of the day and if I feel down I will re visit this blog and hopefully feel better tomorrow. Thank you to everyone's comments. It all helps when I am feeling so down and alone.
- MelgMemberFor those pink ladies interested in meditation I found a great free app called Simply Being. You can choose from a 5 min guided meditation to a 20 minute meditation with music or nature sounds as a background. I find the woman's voice very soothing unlike other guided meditations I have tried. I downloaded it from the apple App Store Happy meditation Wanted to share one of those beautiful moments I experienced yesterday.....my youngest foster daughter who is 10 put her arms around me yesterday and said " Mel even though you don't have boobies now you are still SO pretty " I floated through my afternoon thinking what a beautiful thing to hear. When I first discussed my year of treatment etc a few months after first having them they all said " oh yeah, you don't have boobs." If only everyone was that innocent
