Gosh ... where to start ..... whilst doing a Home Economics course in 72/73, I worked part time with a mob who worked with MIMS (Monthly Index of Medical Specialty - that EVERY doctor refers to re 'contraindications' of combined medicines) where we itemised EVERY item from chemists all around Aussie - showing trends & volumes Aussie wide! Initially it was all done 'manually' - then in 1972 we went computerised - and I ended up as a 'manager' of the computerised input - checking at random, other people's work! BUT - then I went back to my 'training' & worked as a 'demonstrator' at AGL for a few years ... teaching people how to cook! What a hoot that was! We used to put $2 in & buy a wine cask (before Breath Testing!) and had a fun night!
After that i worked at RNSH Sydney as a Dietary Aide for many years - making sure patients had the correct meals relative to their conditions - one of my friends was looking after the Cancer Ward & I was in awe of her ability to deal with such emotive patients & still keep sane.
Then, I was headhunted by a company that was bringing in the very first 'Home Computers' into Australia (they were DEC - Digital Equipment Corp) way back in the late 70s ... up til then, everything was pretty well Mainframes (other than Apples, which were only just starting out! Then, I went to work with a mob taking charge of insolvent companies - trying to get them back on the 'right road'! One was called VM Diesels - & one day I answered the phone saying 'VD Measles' ..... I just cracked up, then hung up, MORTIFIED!!
Then I worked as Accounts payable & receivable for one of Aussies biggest Coal mine based at Circular Quay .... I LOVED that job!! But in the mean time, I'd met my husband to be (from NZ) and left Aussie (and the top job), to go to NZ. There, I worked as a 'Permanent Temp' (doing accounts) for 15 years - and some of my 'temp jobs' lasted up to 5 years!! Next, I was head hunted as the secretary of a School where my husband was the metalwork teacher - in Otara - the backdrop of Once were Warriors Movie! Within 2 years, we were ready to leave for Aussie!!
Back in Aussie, we bought a lawn mowing run for 2 years - and I have been retired since about 2002!! (the youngest in a family of 6 & the first to retire!!) :)
