Menopause and supplements

Hi everyone I’m needing some words of advice and I’m now having a slight panic attack, 5months ago I started ribociclib and before then and still on anastrozole from Oct. but since being on ribociclib I’ve gone into medical induced menopause, I spoke to my gp and told him about the hot sweats mainly and lack of sleep so he said to get a supplement with chaste tree in it. So I found one and it has been working really good  but now I’m afraid the work is undone if I shouldn’t be taking them, my oncologist scares me and I to afraid to tell him but I’m sure I mentioned it to his assistant and I think she said it was ok, I’m so overwhelmed and scared can anyone advise but I think I know the answer and I’m guessing I need to speak to him!

  • Hi Lazyblackcat , thanks for reaching out here for help. I can really sense how overwhelmed you're feeling, especially when you're already dealing with treatment, menopause symptoms, poor sleep, and everything that comes with a cancer diagnosis. The fear and panic can sometimes make us jump straight to the worst-case scenario, and that can be such a hard place to sit in.

Hopefully you can take some comfort in knowing you have the right answer - checking this with your oncologist is the best next step. However it sounds like you don't feel comfortable being open with him - I'm sorry to hear this as it can add an extra layer of difficulty to an already challenging situation.

You deserve to feel safe, seen and heard by your oncologist, and there is nothing wrong with getting a secnd opinion if you feel like he might not be the right fit for you. Do you also have a breast care nurse that might be able to answer this for you?
