On Our Walks
A while back there was a lovely thread of sunrises that the early risers among us posted. I loved it, so I thought I'd broaden it to a thread for all the lovely sights we see as we do our slow staggers through chemo, or those walks we take after active treatment has finished and we're trying to get our strength and fitness back.
In Melbourne today the weather was sunny, still and mild; perfect for a walk. I have followed my GP to a small town in the Yarra Valley (a good GP is worth the 30 minute drive I reckon), and right outside her surgery is the start of a beautifully laid out walking track. It's 7kms long and I've been keen to explore it. So today I walked halfway along it and back. At over 7kms it was the longest walk I've done since the day before chemo!

- Got onto some fun fish yesterday. Best one was a nice Queenie that was about 70cm+ Got a trevally and heaps of other NT fish too. All good fun. Missed the one Barra hit. Grrr

Its been a fun week with @"Annie C" and hubby. Many thanks for your wonderful company and friendship. We had lots of laughs too!! Xx. Safe travels - A bit misty at 8:30 this morning - felt like fine rain.

- Well..... the crab won today BIGTIME! I went back and shoved my rod tip down the hole... and it came back with the tip missing! I had a real tug of war with it and the crab won!! I kept poking it and it took another 8” off. So I stopped at a junk shop and bought a cheap one for $17 ... and the closed the front door on it, busting the tip off!! Bloody hell!! I can’t take a trick. I’ll leave it here for my brother! LOL

Enjoy the break ! - Along the Stuart Highway out to Berry Springs, the wartime airstrips are marked with colourful models of wartime airplanes. Each airstrip is named.

This airstrip is one of the many that my father worked on, leading up to the war, cutting trees and clearing the area for the airstrips and highway. Most of the tree clearing was done by manual labour using axes. No chainsaws. Hard, hard yakka. - Yep @kmakm , my half brother was up there living in a caravan, got pished and missed all the alerts. First he knew about it was when the caravan exploded--he thought someone had driven a truck through it.
Some of the stories about the subsequent evacuation and clean up were definitely suppressed. There was some fairly vigorous persuasive tactics employed on anyone who didn't do what they were told without argument. He ended up in the slammer--not for the first or last time--but it was a bit of a worry when we couldn't find out where he was for weeks. - That evening cruise is the obsolute bomb @anniec ! Definitely the highlight of my last trip up there and well worth the money. We got lucky and were fed 'leftovers' from a group that had paid for catering--most unexpected and satisfactory--never knock back a free prawn :)
