Hi Carolyn
Many people find Docetaxel not too bad after AC or FEC but I have found the pain and fatigue a bit overwhelming from day 3 to 7. I have found the DEX medication has effected me a little more with lack of sleep each time (hence I am awake in the middle of the night again!), so maybe that is why the fatigue hits me quite hard on day 3.
Chemo staff have told me just the impact of each dose of drugs does wear your body down so it does sometimes get a bit worse when you change drugs. Your body kind of wonders 'what next'!
I found I have not bounced back until about 4 days before next dose with Docetaxel, whereas I had a good 2 weeks with each round of FEC.
I have used Endone for the worst of the pain (watch for constipation with this) and then Nurofen once the pain is reduced. Have had a bit of fluid retention and lost most of my eyelashes and eyebrows. Also suffered from oral thrush. Unfortunately ended up in hospital after first dose with neutropenia, so have had to give myself the Neulasta injections for the last 2 cycles.
So, consequently very glad to have last dose complete and looking forward to recovering from it and not having to have anymore!
Hope you are one of the lucky ones who breezes through this drug, like many do. If not just take what medications your doctor recommends to get you through and just think how effective this drug is against any stray cancer cells that maybe lurking around!
Wishing you all the best for a smoother run.
Deanne xx
