Warning photos attached may be confronting - Is this what your radiation looked like?

OMG lovely.  That certainly is a doozy you poor thing. You are definitely no sook. Have you been back to see them? What are the nurses saying?  Can you ask for some Flamazene or something?  That should knock out the sting and burning sensation and start it healing pretty quickly.

I was given Flamazene, but it made me feel like I had insects eating my armpit and I was getting these jabbing pains there, so I was told told to stop using it. I have started to use Dermeze just today and this is feeling less like salt being rubbed into an open wound. I saw your post earlier about your experience with radiation, how long did it take to start to heal?

I get conflicting advice, one is to use those gauzes impregnated with antibiotics, cover with Mepilex and leave the dressings for 2 days without disturbing it. (This was from a doctor)
then the radiology nurse says “No” and that I must pull back the Mepilex dressing and add MooGoo as often as I can each day, recommending 5x a day.
i feel that when I lift the dressing the only moisture there is the slough and it gets pulled away with the dressing, then because it looks so disgusting the last thing I want to do is slap cream on and put the yellow/green slimy dressing back on it.
What is the best way to look after this going forward, I don’t want any infections.

OMG - I really feel for you @Shakalker - that would not be most people's experience as 'normal' following radiation.  :(  

The last thing you need is an infection - so I hope this doesn't happen.  Have you actually seen your Rad Onc since completing treatment?   I think they need to see this, as it may help them with setting the controls on other people as well.

I seriously believe this warrants specialist treatment.   I hope it starts to heal soon

Thanks @arpie, I am seeing her tomorrow but only for my updated doctors statement for my income insurance.
I will be very quick to flash my chest at her, in the past she has not been very helpful, I can only hope. Thanks once again xx

Do more than flash it at her, @Shakalker  - give her a good hard look and ask what she would do, if this was HER injury!!

If she is not helpful to you - I would suggest you going to your hospital via emergency - it needs to be treated properly asap, to prevent infection!

I would visit ED ...I think your chest needs a hospitalisation to deal with the dressings needed.

Having said that...dead skin coming off is a good thing. Maybe even home nursing daily dressings would be of benefit.

That looks really nasty. I looked and, apparently , smelled like a roast chook ( if random dogs that followed me down the road can be believed ) but the horrible oozy stuff was a much smaller area.
If it's any consolation, once it started to heal the burn resolved in a couple of days. It was the centre of my existence for weeks, then it was gone.
I have to admit I still have issues with the site as many people do. Hang in there, you are through the worst of it.  Mxx

I know what you mean about the smell, I regularly feel like throwing up when I catch a whiff of that smell, I would estimate that at least 70% of my wound leaks that stinking stuff.
I hope it heals fast. 🤢

you are so right about the dressings, I have not been able to find any that are suitably big enough to cover the area, hopefully I get some satisfaction tomorrow. Xx
