TCH and Tamoxifen

Hello Everyone. I had a bi-lateral mastectomy on 14 December and my first chemo on 28 December.  Luckily my first 3 chemo treatments were fairly kind to me. Following my 3rd chemo my oncologist  started me on Tamoxifen. My 4th chemo was not as kind. I wasn't expecting to start Tamoxifen so soon. How common is it to start Tamoxifen whilst still having chemo?  I have my 5th chemo on 22 March. Has anyone had a similar experience with starting Tamoxifen whilst having chemo and if so did you notice a difference?

    Hey Helen

    Sorry, I kiind of missed that bit in your first blog I think - chemo brain still hee hee.

    I guess your Onco knows best and I am sure there are benefits starting earlier but shame you have to now suffer from the extra Tamoxifin.

    Mich,All my chemo's are TCH.  i will have 6 TCH and then continue with another 12 herceptins.The oncologist felt that I was coping with the toxicity of chemo well and said that there were benefits of starting Tamoxifen early. Helen

    I agree wholeheartedly with Tonya and I would be asking why you are on Tamoxifin already. I am not on that drug but on Femara after having tried Arimidex.

    Can I ask, are your last 3 chemo treatments different from the first 3. Only reason I ask is because I had FEC for first 3 and coped reasonably well but then I had Taxotere for the last three and suffered considerably with pain and other side effects.

    I am sure your Doc has good reasoning why you should be on it so early but I didn't commence my A.I. until after radiotherapy had finished.

    I was diagnosed 25/11/2011, near on 12 months prior to yourself.
