Still havent started chemo

Well its now the 11th June, 2010 and I still havent started chemo. I was readmitted to hospital on the 21st May, 2010 with the infection. I had to have further surgery to get rid of the infection as the antibiotics were not working. So that was another set back, there was even talk that I might need a skin graft as the whole wound had to be left open to drain and they were not sure if it was going to close.

Fast track to this week. I saw the surgeon on Wednesday and he said that all looks good and that there would be no need for a skin graft and that I can look at starting chemo within 7 - 10 days. Community nurse came yesterday to change the dressings and informs me that I have another infection. WTF........ I only saw the surgon the day before and everything looked great. I didnt know that you could get an infection that quickly. So I am now on antibiotics once again and hope that all will be ok, once they start working, Not sure if I will start chemo as I was told while I am on antibiotics they will not start.

I just wish it would hurry up and start, I do but I dont, I just want to know what will happen over the course of the treatment.

Ohhhh....I suppose I should say what the results were. They took 19 lymph nodes and 4 were positive, there were two very large tumors and many small little ones througout. (this last bit of information was only given to me on Wednesday, which I am glas because I was doubting my decision if there were only two and thinking I could have got away with a lumpectomy). So they have decided that I will have chemo once every three weeks for 6 treatments and then radiotherapy every day for just over a month.

So I am still waiting, its was 6 weeks yesterday since my mastectomy, things have just been dragging on.  Errrrrrr...... will update more at the end of the week, when I know where I go next.

  • Hi Angie,

I hope all is going well for you and that you have started and maybe finished chemo - everyone's journeys are so different but it continues to amaze me how much strength each and everyone of us is able to draw upon when we have to.

    Love and hugs,

  • Wishing you all the best angie72. I know the waiting must be very hard but you must try and stay positive. Things will get better with time. All my lymph nodes were positive but hey...I'm still here after 7 years. Try not to worry and something that might help you is to find an achieveable goal and aim for it. Take your mind off your illness by having a dream and if you don't have one, create one. Focus on your well being and not your illness. Good health to you! xoxo
