sore mouth during Chemo

Hey Ladies.

Looking for some help for a friend of mine who is going through chemo. She has had a couple of rounds, and the last round her mouth has been really sore, and just cleared up in time for the next round, she has only been offered Difflam mouth rinse and oralube saliva which is not working, any suggestions. I am sure she will join us on here soon.'Thanks and regards Moira x

  • Hi Moira,

My onc nurses recommended Biotene, especially the mouth wash, and it certainly helped me.

Also, you are quite right - it is vital to "push" to ease the journey; your friend is lucky to have you along for the ride.

    Best wishes..... Pam

  • Hi Annie thanks for that I am a community liaison for rural sa and I am helping a lady who has got in touch she is in the process of getting access to this site so I will point her in the direction of your links. I have advised her to ask her specialist for something else. But unfortunately when we have just started on this journey. We feel like we are complaining. Which I of course explained we are not. We need to push to get anything we need to make the journey as manageable as we can Thanks again Moira x
  • Hi Moira

Welcome - I'm glad you found your way to this site.

A sore mouth is common during chemo, and some women find it helpful to rinse their mouth a few times a day with bicarbonate of soda. Some women also switch to a child's toothbrush because of the gentle bristles.

There have been a few blogs about sore mouths which I have included below. Check out the blogs as well as their comments for hints from other women.
