well i survived my first chemo. At first they had trouble getting the needle into the port, the first nurse said she just couldn't get it to go in & that there was a lot of fluid coming out. Then a second nurse came & had a go - i felt a pop & told them, seems that was it, it was just a little tougher that's all. Then they were not happy with how it was flowing, blood flowed out okay, but she needed a lot of pressure to get the saline to flow in... so she fiddled around a bit, pulled it out, popped it back in - fiddled a bit more then bingo - it started to flow really well. She was making absolutely sure that it was working well.
Put in the anti-nausea drug, flushed more, then the Doxy, that went in fine, then flush, then the other one in the bag... the metallic taste is yuk, but not too bad i spose, not as bad as i expected. I have had dinner, all went well, so far very little to no nausea - yet. I was glad i had 2 of my friends with me today, it actually made a difference to how well i coped when things weren't going as planned.
The port was a lot of fiddling around, but so very worth it in the long run. So glad i used the Emla patch though!
Thank you everyone for your well wishes.
