Remedies for Radiation burns

Hi girls

Yesterday I finally completed my 25 shots of radiation and suffice to say that my poor booby is very worse for wear.

I listened to all the nurses and also read a lot on Dr Google (as you do) and thought I'd share what helped me.

I used all the potions and lotions that the hospital gave me or I bought myself.  I used them all and also cold flannels etc (and some wine to numb the pain lol).  But today, when it was especially burny (is that a word?) I applied 1% cortizone ointment on the whole breast area....... I'm talking immediate relief...... it took away the "scratchy" feel and left with a warm feeling that was actually cooling; if that makes sense.... .  I've taken two days off work so that I can "air" the breast.... but I feel so guilty..... why is it so ingrained to feel bad when you take sick days?!

Cheers

  • Well Ang....you got through and you did well. Great that the cortizone cream worked. I had my burns dressed by the nurses at the hospital after every radiation session from day 15 up to the last of 25....im very fair skinned and my skin did not fair well. Yes we tend to feel guilty when we have days off but my gp really got through to me one day when she said..this is your life we are talking about. So when my oncologist recommended I take 6-7 mths off work for very I tense chemo I had to go with it. ...as hard as it was I had to put me 1st. As women Ang we struggle with it. Be aware that fatigue may kick in even more when rads are finished. ..mine was up to 3months. I worked through rads but rested when I got home. Apparently the fatigue can even last up to 6 or 12 mths. Wishing you well:) Jackie
