Ready, set, CHEMO

all set for treatment now! Finally met with oncologist and I have pre chemo party with friends tomorrow, blood test Monday and start FEC X 3 lots every 3 weeks, then Docetaxil x 3 lots every 3 weeks. ...then 3 weeks off and onto radiotherapy for 6 weeks...should be finished mid January...looking forward to February already.

Doc didn't want to give me a PICC line despite my dislike of needles..but have some Valium and lots of numbing patches from the chemo ward nurses...

Getting chemo done at Kawana University Hospital...parents live handy if I need a change of scenery...I'm a pretty social person, and feel like I'm off to isolation camp for the next 5 mths!!

  • Good luck with it all. Enjoy your party!

Im way behind you so will be interested to hear how you are going :)

  • Hope all goes brilliantly... I had the same delight-ful chemo cocktail.  I found that as long as I exercised (did 15 mins bike riding a day) and ate plenty of prunes to help with steroid constipation, that all was pretty ok.  I too took a mild sedative before each treatment... helped enormously.  Let us know how you go!!  Dany

  • Good luck with it all.  It is doable, just not always pleasant.  I had 6 FEC and am about to finish radiation, which I have found much much easier than the chemo.  Take all the medication you are offered for nasty side effects.  No need to be extraordinarily brave.  Everyone is different and experiences chemo differently.  Some women work and do exercise, some can't.  I found a picc line great.  Also had sedation before chemo, it helped as I was anxious and frightened.  Best of luck. Karen

  • Best of luck with treatment and hope you tolerate well.

6 Cannula insertion is not too bad. I had a portacath .. ...but that is because my treatment will eventually entail 34 IV treatments. A lot for 1 or 2 veins.

  • Same cocktail as me...I finished 31/5

Just remember to breathe....rest.....and drink plenty of water to flush out the chemicals out!

Wishing you all the best for your treatment and sending love an dlight for easy recovery and beautiful days....

    Xx

    Hi OMG,

That is the same treatment that I had, so I have some advice about what worked for me.

    Drink lots of water

Have a bowl of fresh cut fruit in the fridge to snack on, it keeps your mouth moist.

If you're feeling dizzy, have a boiled egg, don't know why, however it worked for me.

Get plenty of rest, and go for a little walk here and there, even if it's to your letterbox.

Sending you a big cuddle, Trace ????????
