Rash on face and neck

Hello, I am wondering if anyone else got a horrible itchy rash whilst on chemo during the first cycle. I got it on Wk 3, what a horrible surprise as I thought week 3 was going to be smooth sailing. I have it on my neck, face and scalp and it's itchy and irritable looking. I am using coconut oil, cool cloths and taking an antihistamine prescribed by my doctor. This is day three and it is a little better.

I am wondering if this is normal of it is my autoimmune disease raising its head. It attacks the skin and muscles. I certainly don't want that back whilst I am on chemo. Thanks.

  • Thanks ladies, I am glad it's not the disease. Hopefully, with the antihistamine, shampoo, conditioner and moisturiser I will get on top of it. Never a dull moment with chemo! I will be armed and ready for radiotherapy too Vicki. Good to know what lies ahead and then you can cope with the great unknown! Have a great rest of the week!

  • Hi Robyn,

I have finished chemo 10months ago and i remember gettingthe horrible rash on my chest, neck, face and head. As i still had hair then i used Neutrogena TGel shampoo and conditioner also Zyrtec or claratyne Antihistamine and Nourish dry skin lotion everywhere else. I also had the rash when i had radiotherapy and did the same regime and it worked and still today i get itchys and still use the same things.

    keep sane

  • I have not had rashes  - but my eyes got itchy and watery (I get that in spring without chemo) and my oncologist suggested claratine which is what I normally use. no rash though. I don't recall getting in round 1 - lets see what transpires for round 3 tomorrow. then only one more round on the 17th june.

  • I also, got this side effect.A lumpy, red, blotchy, insanely itchy rash The only thing that got rid of it for me,was Zyrtec. It cleared it up in about 3 or 4 hours. Zyrtec is safe to use with chemo.Cheers Robynxox By the way I got it round 1,2 and 3, but not round 4.
