Radiotherapy week six
Tuesday I started the boost rads. It was verging on being scary. An extension arm was connected to the machine and a plate inserted in with a oval cut out (almost like a stencil). The machine was then lowered to within about two cm of my breast and very close to my face. Two zaps then done.
Wednesday I had rads and appointment with Workcover doctor. After that I ran away to work so husband could do all the running around. But my eldest son (16) texted pick me up from his girlfriend's. Home late 9.30pm. Not a good sleep.
Thursday (if I didn't need further proof that I try to do too much this was it) four parent teacher interviews in Werribee at the kids high school, race over to Sunshine to do rads, race back to Werribee do four more interviews. Zoom home get ready for work, get into work last an hour and half then ask and get sent home as I hit teary headachy tired stage. Drive home go to bed until tea time. Believe me I don't need to be told I over did it.
Friday Take the 16 y.o. For his learner's permit, passes yay!, drop him off at school; then go to second last rad 29/30!:) I celebrate in advance by going to Werribee Plaza afterwards and book a 5 night trip to Sydney in the school hols. Husband was impressed now he gets to look at his dream boat and we get to go somewhere we have never stayed before. I even managed to get travel insurance. Cheryle :)

Thankyou for your reply; im going to peter mac in box hill. I found the technicians great too--all female team and very supportive. My right breast was a bit of a star attraction as they all admired my surgeons' work--you really have to look twice to notice; i joked that they might like to take photos and of course they did -normal procedure. Never thought i would have three women admiring my breast but there you go!
That first appt really is a bit confronting with all the lines and lasers etc but i just want treatment to start and i think i will be fine
best wishes,

At least four, on the day I had my planning session I was told I would start in five weeks and I nominated a couple of preferred appointment times. Once that day arrived I got a week's worth of appointments and the times ranged from 9 to 11am. Every radiotherapy centre is different in how things are handled. I found the radio therapists to be on the whole fantastic and the admin staff annoying. Best of luck with the treatment which centre are you going to? Cheryle :)

Thanks for posting your radiation experience; i do find it useful to get a lived experience view of it. I think im prepared but yesterday was expecting one tatoo and got 5; so that kinda of threw me; and i was also expecting a definite date to start -didnt get that --plus also i thought they would give me a time for the 6 weeks of radiation treatment ie like 9am each morning; but they only do every three days at a time so that kinda threw me too...

Once my radiation is over I am to go on hormone suppressants and thats it I believe.
Of course like everyone else there is monitoring and I am fine with that, so its back to work for me next month......,.yay

Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer last year, and have a recurrent pleural effusion (permanent fluid around the lung), I've had it drained three times now and each time it's incredibly painful.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience? Or if anyone has had alternative treatment which seemed to get rid of the fluid buildup? Thanks and Best wishes, Julie
