Radiation
I'm wondering if anyone has had radiation after their tumor has been removed?
My Oncology team have chosen to start radiation therapy for me this week.
If so, has the tumor re-occured for anyone....
I have had 18 of my 25 radiation treatments after a lumpectomy and have been told it is an insurance policy against further tumors. I hope this turns out to be true.
Only reaction so far to radiation is a little discomfort from redness in areas around the breast that were exposed to sun over the years. A red and uncomfortable area under the breast. However with good skin preservation methods advised by the breast care nurses this has been minimised.
After coming from an attitude of " I will not have radiation" to accepting and realising it is the one thing I can do to help myself I feel it was worthwhile sharing this experience for those offered this treatment.
Dr Barth in USA has done studies and found radiation does reduce the risk of further tumors. Lets hope this is the case...
