Hi Ladies, I'm about to start radiation And I was wondering if you had any tips. I'm 3 weeks post mastectomy. I'm having my planning appointment tomorrow. Cheers Kylie xxx

  • Yes, all the ladies here are right. Moisture is the key. Just make sure any cream used doesn't contain alcohol as this can sting. Some sorbolenes contain alcohol. Moo goo Udder Cream is delightful and you can get body wash and deodorant too. Try and schedule your appointments at the same time every day and the time will go very quickly as it will just be part of your routine. Good Luck
  • Yep, I concur with the other ladies. Skin care is the most important thing. And rest when you need to. Good luck with it. Karen xox
  • Michelle is right, moisturise as much as possible. I used Moo Goo throughout my radiation and it was fabulous - very soothing. My skin did break down a little in the last week so used pure Paw Paw (black tube - no petroleum) with the Moo Goo and it recovered well. Both products were recommended by the radiation oncology nurses. I also used a cold, damp washer just to help soothe the areas before moisturising :-)

    Best wishes, Jane xx

  • My best two tips would be cream, cream and more cream - I used Essentials Vitamin E cream from the Chemist (but not before treatment visits) - and DeoNat deodorant, also from the Chemist.  Both these were recommended by my Radiation Oncology team and I still use them 2 years later, which speaks for itself.

Some of the pink ladies used pure sorbelene or Moogoo products - also very pure.  I think the main thing is to slather the cream on, starting in the dressing room after treatment and every night before bed.  Also during the day if it feels tightish.

The time goes very quickly, and once you are set up only takes a few minutes.  All the very best  xx Michelle
