Radiation Rant

Hello,

Just having a whine!

Went for my second round of rad today, looking forward to having the Mepitel tape applied. BTW, has anyone else had it? Supposed to reduce side effects of radiation on the skin ... that'll do me fine.

Anyway, got undressed to put my designer hospital gown on and nearly had a heart attack. My bloody breast infection has resurfaced big time. Rad girls had a look and didn't like it at all, so after treatment, said they were not going to apply the tape until I had the nurse look at.

The nurse had a look and got the breast care nurse in ... who I might add is worth her weight in gold! She had a look and got the oncologist in. He prescribed IV antibiotics over the next 4 days to be administered straight after my rad session.

Far out! Seems I take one step forward and two back lately. Mind you, it's not the medicos I'm frustrated with. Don't think I could ask for a better team! It's this bloody boob of mine. Neither of them have ever given me an ounce of trouble before, but this one is certainly making up for lost time.

So now I have a cannula stuck in my wrist with a sock bandage over it, hoping it all hangs in there for tomorrow and the next day and the next because finding a vein in this over-worked hand and arm of mine was a nightmare in itself.

Okay, I've got that off my chest .... no pun intended!

Sorry ladies, I know there are so many of you out there going through a lot more and I am thinking of you all.

Lots of hugs,

San-Dee

  • Hi Anne-marie

I'm not long from finished radiotherapy & got very itchy as well.

very hard not to scratch as well !

As far as I know, it IS the radio therapy making you itchy.

    Interesting they say it isn't.

If they had they ever been on receiving end of radiation, they may think differently ?

  • Just did my 5th round of radio (20 more to go...) and I get Metipel, but the most annoying thing is I've already had it put on 3 times as it keeps peeling off and no have not put any water on it from shower.

    Wishing you all the best!!!!

  • So sorry to hear that it isn't better just yet San-Dee. What a roller coaster for you. Hang in there. Sounds like you have a fantastic medical team. I am sure they will keep on top of it.

    Take care,  Nadine

  • I also have just started Radiothreapy.  I had the mepitel tape put on. I have small breasts, the tape is comfortable, so far. I have had five treatments so guess it's a bit early to comment yet. I'll keep you posted. I have found I'm itchy not where I'm having treatment but the nurses said it was not the Radiothreapy. Maybe I'll go and see my GP.  Sorry to hear about the infection. I also just completed two rounds of antibiotics for the same thing.

    always something.......!!

wishing you well, we will get through this. ??

Oh bugger San Dee, doesn't that give you the pip !!! I struggled with a wound infection for ages, so I feel your pain and frustration. Sounds like they are on top of it all, hoping that you're much better real soon. Sending you a big cuddle, Trace ????????
