Radiation fatigue

I’m about to finish my chemotherapy next week but I’ll be starting 3 and a half week of radiation at the end of of August. How fatiguing is the radiation? I know I will have skin issues but the only person I know who had radiation had hers on her face for a different form of cancer. Has anybody been able to keep working through radiation?
  • Hi @kiwikris72...I had 5 weeks of radiation and worked through out. I was starting to get very tired towards the end of the day by week 3, so I reduced my hours fom 8 to 6 hours per day.

All the best with your rads xo
  • Hi @kiwikris72 I finished 15 radiation sessions in May and I only felt a bit more tired than normal. My skin only  peeled under the arm 10 days after my  treatment finished and I treated it with Bepanthen a few times a day as well as using Moogoo. Good luck for your treatment, it wasn’t as scary as I thought in the end.
  • Hi @kiwikris72 and congrats on getting to the end of chemo! I had 6 weeks of rads (finished four months ago) and it was so much easier than chemo. Fatigue was minimal and only felt it during the last week. I think the daily sessions catch up with you then. As for skin issues I had a minor rash on my chest early on that steroid cream fixed very quickly and the small burn under my arm only blistered after treatment finished. Bepanthen and combine dressing soon fixed that. It sounds like you are having the new shorter treatment so it may be different for you. Also I had a lumpectomy not a mastectomy which I think makes less likely to cause major problems. Anyway don’t worry too much - just keep that moisturiser slathered on! I think you will most likely be able to work through it. Good luck! 😘
  • I found radiation fatigue sets in towards the end but nothing like chemo. I was able to carry on; the burns are the hardest part but for mel that happened days after my radiation finished. It’s much, much better than chemo.
  • Hi @kiwikris72

Well done on finishing your chemo next week!    Woohoo!  Time to celebrate!

Re Rads - many of our members have worked thru their treatment - tho I guess it depends on if there are any skin issues.

I personally didn't have any fatigue that I was aware of - tho my skin was pink/red & broke down a little toward the end of my 4 weeks of treatment - but using the creams & lotions advised (and showing the nurses any areas of concern right away) should give the least side effects.

All the best for your ongoing treatment xx
