Radiation after lumpectomy

My husband used to put himself to bed on about day 5 for a couple of days .... then he was OK again, tho still tired.  Watch out when out in the sun tho - some chemo can really get you sunburned! :(    Eat whatever you fancy - you'll find your taste buds may be totally different too! 

If you get itchy at all - common old Cornflour makes a HUGE difference!   Stand in the shower or a bath & rub it gently over the affected parts - then get a family member to turn on the water to wash away the leftover powder!! 

It will never be pleasant - but it is mopping up the bits you DON'T want to keep in your body.  :neutral:

@arpie Trying to avoid crowds and sniffly people as I am up to Day 17. Kind of survived side effects of 1st treatment. Feeling very apprehensive about going back for 2nd on Thursday.

@Sister   How are you going with your OWN treatment?  I hope you are not too affected by the side effects

@arpie Thanks my friend & such beautiful words ! What a timely post from you as i am packing right now for my 3 week stay in Adelaide. I will be leaving around 6.15 in the morning & have a big day of appts with my rad onc, nurses & finally my first rad treatment at 3pm. I am thinking of you also as you begin next week so GOOD LUCK to you & we will compare notes!! Not sure when I will be able to post again but know you & everyone are in my thoughts. I am feeling very anxious about my next stage but know it is something I have to cross off the list. As you said, better than chemo & i am saddened to hear your hubby has had to deal with that treatment in the past but so good that he is 8 years cancer free & I'm sure you will be too...& more! love to you & everyone. i wish you all strength & courage as we all face this together & know we are all here for each other. I agree with you - we have both been very lucky to avoid the Chemo bullet ..... and I really feel for those who have to go thru it as well as the Radiation.    I watched my husband go thru it in 2010 when he went thru his own Cancer battle.  It was not pleasant!  But he is now 8 years cancer free - so I called it the 'Good Poison'!

Like you - I haven't joined the local BC group - and am more than happy to discuss any issue or concerns I may have, here on the BCNA forum.  We have a terrific bunch of ladies & mods here, willing to pass on their knowledge & empathy to us 'newbies' ..... so well done, everyone!  

My thoughts are with EVERYONE going thru treatment this week & in coming weeks - and those about to finish theirs  ......  Then there are those who are newly diagnosed who may be feeling confused & scared about their future ..... we've all been there.  We know how it feels.

@Sister Thanks my friend!! I feel blessed that I have had such a good result as I don't know what I would have done if it was negative. I would have asked all you lovely ladies for some guidance. I think of you often & hope you are going OK with the chemo now after a rocky start. i don't know the ins & outs of chemo as I haven't had to have it but it sounds like you have had a battle. You have had such a tough journey & it makes me sad but you sound like a very strong women & that strength, along with all our prayers, will get you through. Stay strong & positive & dig deep knowing you have many friends here who care. Hugs xxxx
