After what seemed an endless 4 weeks my radiation treatment has finished ! Yay ! As of yet the side effects have been minimal but I guess the worst is yet to come if I go by others previous experiences .Mid pink boob area slightly increasing in colour, tiny red dots (foliculitis) & random sharp pains are the only things I'm dealing with at the moment .During my treatment I used ,sorbalene ( given to me by the nurse) ,moo goo,& now Dermaid for the itchy foliculitis .For the ladies who may be dreading this phase of treatment I can honestly say although confronting & strange it is very easy & quick .The challenge for me was lying still for the few minutes without getting cramp in my back , somehow on my mapping day my body lay crooked a pose I had to recreate each time ! It was a tedious process getting there & back in traffic each day for a 1 minute treatment ! Luckily for me my hubby was able to be my personal Uber driver for which I'm very grateful ! All staff I dealt with were super , lovely ,calm & reassuring , however I did tell them I never I never wanted to see them again - in the nicest possible way

That's awesome @tigerbeth. Such a relief. Like you, I really had no problems and the after effects only took about a week to heal up. You'll be fine @"Kiwi Angel". Easy peasy compared to chemo. The best part is the rope on the wall to get up! Clever idea whoever thought of that. xoxoxoxo

thanks @tigerbeth I am covering my breast in solubul gel and the mepitex dressings. My last big one tomorrow and then 5 boosts. @JoeyLiz I'm fair but spent a lot of time in the Queensland sun in my teens , stopping at about 22 (I'm 58 now) . That might be where I should lay the blame :|

@tigerbeth I’m starting mine on Monday so that’s the next chapter!

Thanks @arpie I am fair skinned . Only peeling on nipple at the moment. Hoping it doesn't get much worse. Watching the tennis right now, which is taking my mind off it .

The skin reaction is usually a little worse for darker skinned people actually. And those that have had lots of sun exposure in the area. But it is also random and unpredictable.
I hope those with bad reactions heal soon and don't forget you can always go back to your nurses for follow up x

@Finch sorry you're having such a hard time with the rads . Sounds painful . Having more random pain today but it's not bad .
its weird how it affects people differently , I too am fair skinned ,I wonder if the chemo alters the effect ?
I didn't have chemo . My skin could alter any day I guess so will have to monitor it carefully . Good luck sending healing thoughts !
@Arpie no I'd never heard of anyone using that cream ,I'll keep it in mind.

Congrats, @tigerbeth ..... I am SO glad that you didn't find it too bad an experience!!

Like you, I also had a fairly easy time of it (except my two meltdowns that had nothing to do with the rads! LOL) Has anyone suggested that you use BOZ cream (over the counter at chemists - also used for nappy rash) in the 'cool down' period now your rads has finished? It is quite a greasy one - I used a damp bit of kitchen 'cloth/towel' like this .... so that it didn't get onto my shirts. It can be tricky to remove when washing as it is so greasy

@Finch - that's a bugger - I am SO sorry to hear you're having such a hard time of it. Are you extremely fair skinned? (I am, but only went pink-red & slight peeling.)

@tigerbeth congratulations on radiation being all done. What a relief for you . I hope you've celebrated .
I have another 6 treatments to go and have not fared as well as you. I'm very very red and raw and my nipple is peeling and oozing. Im having my breast treated by the nurse after each treatment now. Can't wait for this to be over as its starting to get me down a little and I refuse to be feeling down. I have one more breast treatment and then five boosts so hope my nipple doesn't get much worse.
