Post Radiotherapy issues
Hi all
I finished a 6 week course of radiotherapy in early June this year. Apart from some slight redness towards the end everything else was pretty good, no tiredness etc, some minor swelling of the breast.
In Sept i noticed some lumpiness in my breast that was treated, it was around an area where i knew there were a few cysts. My oncologist did not think it was anything nasty as i was still having treatment, herceptin is finishing in December. He suggested i see my surgeon for an opinion. The surgeon cut it out (as it was very much on the surface) in his rooms and sent it for testing. It came back as fat necrosis. A few weeks later, there is another area nearby thats developed fat necrosis too.
My surgeon said its most likely from radiotherapy damage to the tissue, its not common but does happen. He is not sure if i will end up with more fat necrosis areas. For now he is not doing anything with the second lumpy area but im due for annual mammogram/ultrasound soon so we will look at it then.
Has anyone had a similar experience? You get so scared when you feel any lump once diagnosed and to have them being dead tissue is a good thing but would like to understand why its happening
