Hi Jodie,
I'm not sure what a portacath is (luckily for me!) but when I couldn't use my arm after my surgery I was doing a lot of floor work & pilates. When I started jogging again I was holding my "bad" arm tightly against my chest so it didn't move. I could still shuffle along like that. Hope that helps.
