Hi Anita, I always read your posts with interest, and have followed your journey so far with interest. I am having chemo 1st, before surgery. Will be having my 4th cycle next week. I opted to have a port put in up front, as I have shocking peripheral veins. Yes, it was painful to start with. I had it inserted on a Friday, 1st chemo was the following Tuesday. It was still swollen & tender at that point, but within a very short period it improved immensely. It's now over 2 months since it was inserted, and I forget that it's there, most of the time. I would say that it's the best thing I could have done, as it means I don't have to worry about whether they'll find a vein each treatment! Hope that's helpful.
take care, Lyn
