Pain ?

Has anyone else noticed that health professionals all avoid the word ... Pain....  It is now referred to as...Discomfort!!!   I'm afraid I told one Dr - "you mean pain?  have I got much pain?"  "why is everyone so adverse to honestly expressing this word"?This drew a humorous smile but however I still get asked if I have much Discomfort?...It's same with the radiaiton - they only ever call it "skin irritation"  even though I am burnt red raw and super sore .. I told the nurse "No I am not putting that on the irritation I bought some medihoney for my nipple area as it is good for Burns"... I did get a long look!!  but it's just the truth for me anyway. You have to laugh and blah blah I know all the psychological reasoning that could be posted back but I am not fooled easily...  burn is burn, iritation is iritation, but pain is now discomfort  ...Sense of humour to the fore! Life is for having a good laugh at self and things that are....funny!

  • I have my own lingo-

Fatigue from chemo = feeling like  roadkill from a mac truck.

Radiation irritation/burn = glowing like a red  hotplate.

  • your post amused me as my oncologist told me I would suffer some fatigue with chemo, what I suffered was an almost coma. I spoke to the onc asking why no-one told me about that and she said that fatigue has been discussed.

I do not call not being able to lift my head from the pillow for 3 - 6 days fatigue! Now I am wondering what level my fatigue will be through radiation.

    cheers
