My two week radiation

6 weeks after my lumpectomy (margin and sentinel node clear) I had radiation 10 times without any itching, burning feeling, yes it's long way to go with 20 times more.

Just to let every one know that there is a protection film called Mepitel which my radiation oncologist recommended to put over the right breast from day one and it is  be left there until the end of the radiation. The film is very thin like a glad wrap and I can freely do my regular arms exercise as usual. I also checked the research done on the film which indicated that it provide 98% reduction on the skin side effects.  So fingers cross that I am in that 98%. Hope this info help.

Cheers

  • Hi everyone,

It's Lisa from the Policy Team. I just wanted to jump in and say that if this was something you were interested in finding out more about, it would be important to discuss it with your radiation oncologist or nurse.

    Cheers,
    Lisa

  • Hi Piak

Thank you for your informative post re the special protective film.

Many ladies live in areas where the medicos are not necessarily up-to-date with things so this gives them a chance to ask (or insist if necessary).

I am not undergoing radiation but will still research it so that I can tell others more about it.

Keep well - and enjoy this wonderful weather (if you are in Victoria).

    Regards

    Summer  :-)

  • Piak that film sounds great. I havnt started my radiotherapy yet so any gathering as much information as I can so I'm well prepared. Could you tell me a little more about it. Do you leave the film on all the time? What about showering? Do you use any cream like the moo goo?

    Thank you.
