My chemo is finished

Hi girls

I was wondering if it was normal to feel so lethargic after my final chemo treatment 3 weeks ago.  Normally I have bounced back after a week or so after each of my other treatments but this time it is not happening.  I seem to be suffering with breathlessness all the time, even the smallest of jobs seems to have me sitting down after any excersion no matter how small.  My legs feel like lead weights all the time and I am suffering with some swelling in my legs and arms.  I must admit that I have had a chesty cough and head cold which probably hasn't helped. Also I did not have to have any radiotherapy which was a God send. I would be interested to know how others have fared after their last treatment.  Thanks

Mikki

  • Hey MikkiYes luvy it is very normal as the fatigue is a huuuuggggge part of it and can linger for quite a while.  I also had shortness of breath with raspy breating.  I flew to Tasmania in between my chemo and radiotherapy and I was really quite ill unfortunately.  Not being able to walk far.  We went to the top of Mount Wellington which was amazing but I found the cold overwhelming and starting sort of hyperventilating.  I had my hands, left arm, feet and legs all swell up terribly.  I had suspected I had arm lymphodema before I travelled and had seen a lymphodema physio as I was so worried and she nope no way did I have it so I tried not to worry.  I did wear the sleeve any way.  My poor hubby said he felt like he was holidaying with a 90 year old.So long story short these things are supposedly normal. BUT I would still see your GP, chemo oncology team or someone to discuss your issues, even your breast nurse may be able to help.  Probably don't leave it unchecked just in case.I am wishing you well and hope you can recover from chemo soon and revel in the fact you don't need to have radiotherapy.Lots of love, Michx xoxo
  • I was so surprised to discover that after my last Chemo I didnt bounce back like I had before.  Infact, I recall my lungs having been affected and it took time for the deep breathes to feel normal.  The doctor I see said it is a side effect of chemo, and the other said she thought I may have had fluid on the lungs, but I wasnt coughing.  I had 6 weeks before I began Radiation and I was feeling just like you and similar symptoms.  I am still not very energetic, and have lots of sleeps and only go for half hour walks 2 months later !
