Mepitel Film for Radiation Treatment

Hi all.
I'm trying to find out info concerning the mepitel film. My bestie has been having chemo and the next step is radiation. Trying to find out more on the film, where to get it or if its provided by hospitals etc. She lives in Perth and was told its only available in Victoria.  So, any help or info would be great. The chemo has done some damage and she will need the film for some protection going forward.
Thank you in advance.

  • Hi @Lulu66, first, what an excellent friend you are getting this information for your bestie. Bug hugs to you cause you're a gem. Now, there is a thread in this site in the tests and treatments section http://onlinenetwork.bcna.org.au/discussion/13948/radiotherapy-side-effects#latest -  this thread was started I think by Sharon Leigh and has major info about mepitel film and where to source it. If the link doesn't work the thread is called radiotherapy side effects. All the best to both you and your bestie and please let us know how your both getting on (it's hard to watch someone go through this, but you are doing something so proactive and helpful its fantastic). Xx Cath
  • Thank you so much for the info.
My friend lives in Perth and they don't have it or use it there. We are trying to find out if we can get it some how to help her through the next stage for her.
Your experience has been very helpful.
All the best for a speedy recovery. X
  • Hi @Lulu66. I have just finished 25 Radiation treatment at St George Public in Sydney. I had Mepitel Film on for all my treatment. It was replaced weekly and then 2 weekly post treatment. I still did have some radiation burn that came out a week post treatment. I can't fault the film though. It was provided through the nurses in the radiation department and I didn't have to pay for it. My Radiation Oncologist doesn't normally use it, it's that I read about it on here and asked for it.
  • The Mater at North Sydney uses the film. I start treatment there in August sometime.
  • Thank you for your reply.
I wish you the very best in your journey. X
  • @Lulu66 I am in Victoria. I went to Peter Mac in Box Hill for radiation. I was not offered mepitel film. I am just writing to say that my experience was excellent. I was carefully monitored during the whole five weeks. I do not know enough about the film. I am just reassuring you that every precaution is taken. Prior to radiation I had about seven months of chemo and a lumpectomy. Your friend will be in good hands.
