- SisterMemberSo good to have made it through, isn't it? Woo hoo!
- youngdogmumMemberWell it's done, completed my final full dose course of dose-dense Taxol yesterday. To say I was buzzing is an understatement. Neuropathy remains mild so oncologist was happy to give full dosage. Thanks for all the guidance and support ladies and gents x
- youngdogmumMember@Sister I didn’t know that, thank you. I think I’m close to being around 9/12 so I’m leaning toward being okay with it if I don’t get anymore.
Thank you @Flaneuse nice to meet you and glad you’re able to return to the community who supported you.
Couch day for me today, I can barely move 😔 - FlaneuseMember@youngdogmum I've come into your story late. I've needed to hibernate for a few months to deal with my own issues, and am now just gradually coming back, and that feels so good to again be among the people who have given me so much support.
What am impressive young woman you are. I'm 76 (diagnosed at 74) and I've always said I was grateful that, if this had to happen to me, it didn't happen when I was young or in my middle-aged full-on career mode. You are an inspiration, the way you're handling your situation; and I get the feeling it's not just because of your clinical knowledge: it's just you and your own extraordinary spirit and intelligence.
My oncologist stopped my chemo after 8 of the 12 weeks of Taxol because of peripheral neuropathy. She said it could end up being permanent and advised me to opt for quality of life. I'm glad about that. A friend did the whole course and she still has dreadful PN nearly five years on. It took some time for it to fade for me, but it did.
Not being "sure how to feel" is the way it goes for us all. I have ups and downs sometimes from one minute to the next, one day, one week, etc.
Take care. <3 - SisterMemberI didn't have dose dense @youngdogmum so I don't really know the regimen. Instead I had the standard 12 doses weekly. I started to develop pn towards the latter end (can't remember now but think it was around 7 or 8) beginning in the outer toes of the right foot. It eventually spread to my ankles and a little way up my legs, and also into my fingers. The onc took it week by week and did say that I might have to have a longer break in between or lower the dose but in the end it wasn't necessary. Most of it went away except for the spot it originally began - I have had no change in that. Do be aware that taxol is a guessing game - they know the maximum that most people can take and that's what they aim for. What they don't know is the minimum that is effective so quite probably, many of us have been way overdosed. I know I was told that 8 out of 12 doses was the goal line. But do discuss it with your onc.
