- lrb_03MemberIt's such a hard one. You want so much to finish the prescribed course, but be aware that peripheral neuropathy can continue to progress for some time after completing chemo. For some, it then goes completely, for others, there is no resolution and great effect on life. Many others will fall somewhere in between.
I had a different taxane, & not does dense. I considered my pn fairly mild. I start chemo just on 4 years ago. Whilst I would say i have almost normal sensation in my finger tips, I can have a firm grasp on a item and then it's gone. Luckily it hasn't been anything breakable to date. My 2 little toes on each foot are still quite numb on the underside, so I tend to be careful walking but it's not a major issue.
You, and your team have to weigh up the risk v benefit ratio of continuing or stopping. As always, write your questions and concerns and take them to your appointment
Take care - youngdogmumMemberSo round two of dose dense Taxol saw body aches for about 9 days again, slighty
improved from first round but still requiring second daily analgesia and lots of hot baths and hot water bottles to help. Definately finding if I move around every hour when awake I feel better l, less stiff/crampy.
On another note, I’ve developed early peripheral neuropathy, mild. If it stays the same Onc will probably switch me to weekly x 2 for my final dose. If it worsens when he sees me in a fortnight he will probably cap me off / meaning today could have been my last chemo! Not really sure how to feel right now, too many unknowns. Will let you all know :) - youngdogmumMemberRegarding dose dense Taxol:
Today is my first day without muscle aches.. 10 days after chemo 😬😬😬
I did catch a head cold so it’s hard to say what symptoms were general aches from that and what was down to the chemo.
Will update after next cycle :) - youngdogmumMemberThanks for the responses everyone, I’ll update as treatment goes along to help others who are getting dose dense. Honestly this is harder than dose dense AC was 😬 I’ll see how this pans out over the next few days
- primekMemberNo not me @sister. ..mine was normal regime. I was sick enough on that.
- SisterMemberI think @primek had dose dense but not sure. Chemo knocked me flat particularly by the time I got to taxol so I'm probably not a good one to ask. I was on normal strength and I would be sort of coming out of it by Day 4 but each week my energy levels got lower.
- ZoffielMemberI didn't have dose dense--too old or something or other, apparently. Dose dense sounds both terrifying and appealing. It wasn't a 'thing' when I first had chemo. I asked about it last time but was told no. The idea of getting through the whole shitfight faster and getting a better therapeutic response was attractive. Given how awful regular chemo is, I can only imagine DD is worse, though I never really recovered between treatments this time anyway. Hang in there, chick. Mxx
- youngdogmumMemberDose dense taxol has left me feeling like I’ve been run over, how long did everyone’s aches last between rounds???
- arpieMemberAll the best for your treatment xxxxx. Take care
- kmakmMemberPhew!
