Hi! Eager to chat with young women facing BC treatment

Hi!

It was great to see there's a young women's online support group. Since being diagnosed with BC in June this year, I have wanted to connect with other young women who are going through or have gone through BC treatment.

I am 39 years old and, even though I have a strong family history of BC, I was still shocked to find out that I had developed a fast growing, invasive BC within a matter of three or so months. I had been having my annual mammogram checks and was told that those annual checks would pick up any cancers at a pea size. I never thought I would get a fast growing cancer that seemed to appear out of nowhere. The news of getting cancer before I was 40 was surreal! I kept thinking the doctors got the results wrong and would call me back to say they had made a mistake. The next few days were a whirlwind of shocks, leading up to two surgeries and my appointment of my oncologist.

I have now had two rounds of AC chemo treatment. The first round was really, really tough! I have two more rounds of AC treatment before I have 12 weekly rounds of Taxol. I will then have a double mastectomy and immediate reconstruction. I am also booked in for genetic counselling and testing at the end of October.

That's my cancer story. Let me now tell you a little bit about me. I am a mum of two wonderful kids - a boy named Kobi (8yrs) and a little girly girl named Paige (6yrs). I also have a great hubby, Jordan, who has made everything a thousand times easier during my surgeries and chemo. I love cooking, reading, going to the movies, and doing Pilates. I also love to travel! My hubby and I plan to take the kids to Canada or Hawaii after I recover from BC treatment and my future surgery. It helps to have something to look forward to.

I would love to hear from other young women facing BC treatment. Please drop me a line! Is there anyone from Brissy who would like to meet up for a coffee? I live on the northside of Brisbane.

Cheers! Jude x

  • Hi Jude, I've just joined the online group.  I'm Jenny 36 and live in Sandgate. A little about me - miss diagnosed 2014 then diagnosed in Feb 2015. And still in shock - no family history.  I was diagnosed with hormonal grade 3 invasive breast cancer had a lumpectomy, chemo radiation and now two months in on tamoxifen.  I've just started back at work and feeling good.

I'd love to catch up - my email is jlynch105@hotmail.com.  Hope to talk with you soon  Jenny

  • Hi Jude,

I am 36 year old, with no family history. I got diagnosed with breast cancer in August, had a right mastectomy and currently in my 2nd week of my first chemo treatment.

Feel free to email me anytime shirl_wei@Hotmail.com

I live on the southside, guess we can meet in the middle one day!

    Take care,

    Shirley

  • Hi Jude,

I was diagnosed in Feb this year (no family history though) aged 40, and have just finished my chemo - 4 rounds AC followed by 12 weekly Paclitacel (taxol), so I'm a few months ahead of you. I had a single mastectomy and full lymph clearance prior to my chemo (with immed recon), and I start 28 sessions of radiation towards the end of September. Rest of the recon stuff happening next year.

I'm up at the Sunshine Coast, so not too far from you, and I still have some specialist appts (surgeon and physio) in Brissy as I had my surgery at The Wesley.

I am mum to two wonderful girls, Amelia (aged 7 Gr 2) and Indigo (aged 5 - prep), and my gorgeous husband Daniel. We've booked a trip to Thailand for after christmas, which will be after all active treatment is complete, but before second recon surgery.

Feel free to drop me an email: dandrmellifont@optusnet.com.au  I'm getting stronger each day after the last of my chemo, and I'm sure I'll be doing more drives to brissy again soon (my Mum and siblings all still live northside).

    Cheers,

    Bec
