Help with radiation remedies
Hi everyone
tomorrow us my last radiation treatment. I wanted to find out how people coped with the burns. This has been the worst thing throughout my treatment.
I have red raw skin under my breast it is really uncomfortable/painful. Wearing a bra is uncomfortable/not wearing a bra is uncomfortable. I am using the gel and padding, the smell is unpleasant after a few hours.
Any suggestions I believe it is going to get worse before it gets better
thanks

Hi Lisa. I burnt quite badly and needed a break with only 7 rads to go. The nurses gave me a lightweight cotton boob tube with straps to keep the gauze and padding in place. I used heaps and heaps of solugel i found it very soothing. I managed to find really comfy maternity crop bras from big w which i put over the boob tube when i went out. I was amazed at how quickly the skin heals. Post treatment i use moo goo now as part on my lymphodema massage regime. Take care snd hope things improve for you soon. Maryrose

Hi, I also used MOOGOO skin care which can be bought at health Food Shops. I was starting to get bad burns towards the end of my treatment. The cream really helped me. Good luck with it all. Annie

Hey Lisa
All great ideas. I wore those cheap crop top bras all the way through, and used the scarves draped over the boobs, I thought it looked ok and felt it hid the bounces... I was told not to wear a bra throughout radio. Plus to having chemo getting used to using scarves.

Hi Lisa, remember it well painful alright.I use to put cold cabbage leaves on mine not a pleasant smell but I was so sore I didn't care.Aloe Vera gel kept in the fridge helped too I also used burn cream I can't remember what it's called though still suffer from memory loss due to chemo. No wonder we suffer from depression! my Sister keeps telling me to get over it I pray she never has to go through it. I have changed personality from easy going, happy to this paranoid stressed out anxious person I hate .I also have become a hermit most of the time unless I have to go somewhere, I hope all this improves and I hope you heal soon I took about 3 weeks remember to cover up in the sun Oh I forgot Lisa there is no sun ha ha roll on warmer weather Christine xxx

Thanks Adean, I like the hankies idea I will try that. Appreciate the help. It was about the 30th treatment that I was hit hard. I will also start changing the dressing 3 times rather than 2. Thanks so much for sharing. Go well.

I too burnt severelyat the 30th treatment and then 5 more they actualy said do you want to stop, no way I said let's just finish. I changed the dressing 3 times a day and solugel is the best just kept smothering it and used cutlin film and padding I wore my post surgery bra and very loose tops at work. I was amazed how quickly it healed. I also had a salt bath each evening, smothered solugel used my dads old cotton hankies over the boob and a singlet, and Panadol..good luck with the rest of your treatment

Hi Lisa, I'm halfway through rads and have been using moo goo. So far, so good, not wearing a bra (they should be looking at your face anyway lol) skin feels a bit sunburnt but not too bad. Congrats on finishing rads, I hope that you're healing well soon, Trace ????

Oh and if you are going on tamoxafin I found my oncologist advising not to start it until a month after radiation finished helpful as you can recover from one treatment and be in a better space -physically and emotionally.
