HELLO

This is my first time on here as well. Am feeling exactly as you do Chris (Christine 59). My, how you world changes in a split second.

It has been a week and a half since i was diagnosed with a large lump in my right breast.  Have had lots of tests, X-Rays, CT scans etc.  See my breast surgeon thursday week.  I also have abnormal liver functions which my GP was/is concerned about.  Got the all clear on Saturday that the cancer has not spread.  It was equal to winning lotto i recon.  We were all so relieved.  I was yahooing all around the place.

I will be having a double masectomy, radiation and chemo.

It has been wonderful and very helpful finding this forum and being able to read all about it and get an understanding as to what i am in for.  I knew absolutely nothing about BC before i was diagnosed.  I didn't even know there were different types.

I have a daughter 38yrs, and i got her to have a look here, and she says it is fantastic and helped her alot as well.

It is comforting to know that i can call on you as i start this next chapter.

I turned 60 at the end of April, and live with my husband in a little community called Balgal Beach which is half way between Townsville and Ingham in North Queensland.

Thank you all for sharing your stories and especially your great tips.

Michele X

  • I think it depends where you are up to in your bc journey.During treatments, especially chemo, just eat what ever you feel like.Your tastebuds go abit crazy so any food is better than no food.Obviously when you have finished all treatments, you should eat a healthy, well balanced diet and cut out alcohol(maybe a little!)We should aim to eat more vegies and fruit, some lean meat or alternative protein, cut back on biscuits /cakes and my favourite-chocolate!Some of us need to loose abit of weight -I thought I would try the 5:2 diet.It helped me before.

  • Welcome, I am so glad you have found this group. It has been 3 weeks tomorrow since I was diagnosed with ILC. I had a CT scan and a bone scan today (more waiting for results) and in the middle of it all I got a call to say my mastectomy is booked for Monday. Not sure how I feel about it all yet, but I'm sure it will sink in around 3am tomorrow morning as most things have been tending to do.

Like you I have found this group comforting. It is a relief to be able to ask questions and receive advice from ladies who have been or are on this rollercoaster. I wish you well for your surgery and keep us posted on how you go.

A big thank you to all you wonderful ladies for the sharing and support.

    Hugs xx Chris

  • I do not think there is any hard and fast rules on diet, each have their own opinions. During my treatment my doctors attitude was to eat what you could when you could becasue they do not want you loosing weight.

My ideal is a balanced diet, but whatever works for you is how you should go. I did give up alcohol throughout my treatment and now only very occassionally have something.

  • Welcome to our group, it is so scary when you are first diagnosed and we all deal with it differently. I found this site very quickly and used it to my advantage, I vented and raged and got it out of my system.

We are here for you, we are all at different stages, we have all experienced things slightly differently but amongst us all you will get a very good picture.

I like you have an adult daughter and she was the most amazing support and source of strength for me, I think we women with daughters are so lucky because they all seem to be there for their mums.

Take care and keep in touch.
