Has anyone experienced hair regrowth during AC Chemo?

Hi all,

This may sound weird but I thought that once one was having Chemo and hair started to fall out it would keep on falling out until gone and noregriwth during actual Chemo...

I am having AC Chemo which means guaranteed hairloss (80% fell out in week 1 of 1st session and I had a lovely lady buzz off the remaining crew cut hairs at the time hoping the few patches with stubble would be soon gone too).

I am now on day 9 of 2nd course of AC and imagine my shock when a friend asked me how it is I have stubble all over my head poking from under a headwrap.

I only then realised that my whole head where there was smooth skin with nobhair had stubble several millimetre long. Basically everythong that fell off has now started to sprout back.

Does that make sense? I though I would go bald and stay like that for a few months. This stubble is freaking me out now and making me wonder if Chemo is even working - I am sure I am being stupid but somehow in the back of my mind I am asking if my hair is fighting back could cancer cells be doing the same...

Here is to hoping this is not weird and others also experience hair regrowth mid AC chemo...

  • Hi Jel  I had hair regrowth all the way through AC, there was often a fuzz. And remember feeling as you are - but maybe the body recovers a little during each cycle??  Kept my eyebrows all the way through AC - then lost them during the docs/hercepton.  Some two years past chemo - all good and cancer free still.  Hope your chemo goes quickly and smoothly as possible.

  • Thank you Kath

I thought somwthingnhad to be wrong as somw bits as you said did not fall.off but everything else looks like it is growing like crazy and just 8 days ago was smooth skin...

I was honestly thinking something had gone wrong with my Chemo dose as I have a good 5+mm growth all over my head where it was previously bold

Never thought I would say this but now that I know I will be going bald again next week I can sleep soundly.

  • I had stubble too and I think some of it was the hair that hadn't  fallen out yet grown a bit. I eventually had 2 spots that seem to resist falling out until cycle 4. I've now got a soft down and some quite long bits of hair and I'm  doing  weekly chemo. You will find  by day 13 to 17 you will find a whole lot of stubble in your sleeping cap. It grows and falls out with each cycle. Doesn't mean it is not working. I still have some resistant fanny hair...not  much but some.
