Hair loss style

Hi all,

as I am to shortly start chemo I have been shopping for some cool looking hats, beanie's and will possible look at wigs as well.

The problem I am having is that as I wear glasses trying to find a hat that looks good (that isn't a sun hat) whilst wearing glasses is really difficult!

Has anyone got any good advice on stores etc. I have been to DJ's and Myers here in Newcastle with no luck and don't really want to risk the internet,  but will go to Sydney if I have to get some 'good style' happening! I have scarves and will get a turban but would love something a little 'chic'!

Thanks in advance

Therese

  • Hi Michelle I was looking to book into the look good workshop too, just not sure what date yet, but may get to meet you! Thanks, Therese
  • I am about to start chemo on the 1st Aug and live in Newcastle as well. I have just found a local store that stocks wigs and turbans etc (I will message you the info). I have also booked into the next 'Look Good Feel Better' workshop for August to meet others going through the same thing as I am and get some great tips on making myself feel better during the process.

    Good luck for your chemo,

    Michelle

  • Hi Hikerbabe,

I am not sure if you've found our online services directory, but you can do a search for a wigs, headcovers and/or hats in your area. The search page is here: http://www.bcna.org.au/ldirectory/listing

The directory is still newish, so there may not be too much listed in your area,  if you do find out some info about a service you like -  please feel free to let us know too! Most of the listings currently in there have been suggested by our members. Let me know how you get on :-)

  • I also purchased from there - have some lovely head gear and comfy too. easy to put on - not like tying a scarf, and you do need them in winter. also have a selection of beanies from mum and friends that they made for me for after work and weekend wear. how much I love these as your head does get cold.

  • I also bought my caps from headcovers.com. They were delivered to the door in just a few days. I was very happy with them for a winter option. I also bought some other covers from Pink Sister here in Australia. I never had any problems with purchases from either of these on-line companies. Deanne xxx
  • I went on line and bought great caps, bandanas and scarf thingies from www.headcovers.com in the USA. I had it all delivered to my door with no problems. They are very reliable. Best wishes, Tonya xx

  • I also wear glasses, but during chemo, the thing that I ended up loving to wear the most was my bamboo turban. It was so soft and comfy, and once chemo starts, and you lose your hair,I think you will find that something that is comfy, and also keeps your head warm( because it can get really cold!)will be your priority.I had caps and scarves also, but no actual hats. All the best xoxRobyn
