Floored! (chemotherapy experiences)

Hi all

I had my second round of chemo on Thursday via my spanking new picc line.

It took an hour off the time of treatment which was good.

My oncologist is pleased with me which is also good!

This time round however I feel like I have been hit by a bus.  My white cell count is down so had to have an injection yesterday which is also contributing to the feeling of, well, dreadfulness.

Most of my hair has now gone which is very confronting, even though I know it will grow back.

It's good to read here your stories of travelling along the same path and your return to wellness in the end, but it's very hard to go through it yourself isn't it??

Off to bed now as I really can't stay upright any more!

  • Hello Tink

Sorry to hear how you are feeling, if you spend every day on the couch it's because you need it. When you start to feel better once chemo has finished you then realise just how awful you really felt while doing chemo even on the good days. Losing your/my hair is a biggy but there is nothing much you can do about it, try and retain a sense of humor and you are better than a good hair style. it's humbling in away. I then had a bilateral mastectomy with no reconstion My girls were very big (18 G) and again I am better than a pair of breasts. I really feel for the young man of 23 yrs down in Esperance who lost his hands to a shark, I have a son who surfs and is 23yrs old. I am at the end of my journey and will live in fear as I am high risk at coming back but I am lucky in lot's of ways and my journey has taught me how important relationships are and just to enjoy the simple things like not feeling as bad as yesterday and oh great the sun is shining and winter nearly finished. You will soon be at my stage trust me, and giving a positive blog to others. Very good luck on your journey and stay in touch and use this site. It's a wonderful way to off load as even though hopefully you are surrounded with people who care but sometimes you just need to talk cancer and of course we are the best people to do that with.

cyber hug and you will beat this.

  • Thanks Robyn.  Feeling a bit better today.  Just had to go to the hospital as I'm in a bit of discomfort around my chest area.  Xrays showed no issue with the picc line so it's a bit of a mystery.  Another day on the couch in front of the tv coming up I think!!

  • I remember that 'hit by a bus' feeling well!!I can recall trying to walk up the stairs to my bedroom, and my daughter had to push me,because I just couldn't get my foot to the next step!!!I got to love having no hair,as it's so easy ! There are many ladies on here that also got to feel that way about having no hair. Before you know it,the end will be in sight, and once chemo is over, you really start to improve very quickly.Take care and stay in touch.CheersxoxRobyn
