First chemo

the last few days have been very tiring. Yesterday I had a portacath inserted ready for chemo today and a echo gram. I was very sore last night and very apprehensive about starting my chemo today. After spending 7 hrs at the hoist all today I have finished mt first chemo and herceptin treatment. It was a long day for my wonderful husband who was with me, for me it didn't seem that long as the absolutely amazing nurses explained everything they were doing and why. I have another 11weeks of taxol and 17 treatments of herceptin every 3 rd week. The chemo wasn't as bad as I thought it would be I went to sleep for a while. Feeling a little weary tonight ,the one side effect I had today was pain in my chest it felt like in digestion. Has anyone else experienced this? I am pleased that I have taken another step toward the end of my journey. It was nice to talk face to face to people going through the same as myself,

cyber hugs to everyone

  • Hi Freitagsm,  I know how you feel with the Dexamethasone, I was awake all Thursday night and think it took until Saturday to get out of my system.

Good luck on your Jurney. xx

  • I had my first chemo on Thursday as well. Went a lot better than I thought also. I have a picc line that has been a bit painful since I had it fitted on Tuesday. Had to race to the gp as oncology when i said i had some pain in my chest bone. GP escorted me to have a ct scan but all clear so relieved about that. I am having FEC. The one thing that has been hard for me is Dexmethesone hyping me up and not able to sleep at night.

Hope all goes well for you.

  • Hi Leanne. Thinking of you. Small steps forward. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.....I have finished my treatment and enjoying life once more. Good Luck. God Bless. Chris.x

  • All the best Leanne,

One step at a time.  Be kind to yourself. Just think that's one down. Big hugs,

  • Hi Leanne,

Great to hear that your first chemo went well, it sounds very much like my first one; very long day and I nodded off a few times :-) I was told the first infusion is delivered very slowly so that they can closely monitor your reaction and if all goes well, each time after is a bit quicker. I think by the end of my 6th cycle of TCH I was down to about 4hrs and having the Herceptin on its own was quite quick, usually about an hour and a half, just time to enjoy a cup of coffee and go again!

I did get some heartburn / indigestion with my chemo and my oncologist prescribed Salpraz, so just chat to your doctor and they'll be able to help.

    Best wishes, Jane xx
