First chemo

started steroids day before my first chemo which was yesterday. 5 hours of TAC. All went pretty smoothly, nurse Emma was exceptional. I drank plenty while on drip (having to go to the toilet a few times!) nurses said that helped to flush everything through. Got home, felt fine then got a tightening in chest which I had never had before. My dr had warned me that the steroids could cause heartburn so decided to take the mylanta which he had suggested. After about an hour it subsided. I had thought it might also be a bit of anxiety due to all the build up of the commencing treatment and the fact that my mother in law a few days ago fell and broke her hip and have to have a hip replacement (in the same hospital I was at fortunately) but she will have to come and stay with us for a fortnight as she is on her own. Just another stress to think about. But today I feel quite well, just resting. My poor husband will have a lot of running about to do.

  • Thanks Karen, yes I am wondering when it's going to hit me. Food is bland already, tiredness not too bad. But only day two post chemo #1.

  • One step ahead of me then Kazzi. I actually feel quite good. Don't know how long this will last? Only day two after chemo. Got up put the washing on, made two meals to freeze. (Hubby not very domesticated!) but sitting down now and resting. Trying to eat the right things and doing the oral hygiene thing. Nothing tastes very appetising at the mo although been making some smoothies which are quite tasty and nutritional. Hope you go well with your chemo. Keep us posted. Xx

  • Hi Linyloo,

Glad to hear you've finished one chemo. (that's one behind you now!)  Sorry to hear about your mother in law, yes your husband is going to be very busy.  I hope you are being kind to yourself and resting as much as possible.  I found walks helped with the queasiness, ginger beer and jelly, and also the occasional mylanta and anti nausea meds. I do remember getting really tired at around days 9-10 post chemo when your blood counts are low.  I'm day 4, post #2 chemo (AC).

    Take care,

    Karen xx

  • Hi Lindyloo

I hope you are one of the lucky ones that gets through relatively unscathed. Just be prepared that you may start to feel it in a couple of days. You need to look after yourself during this time. Hubby is definitely going to be busy. Take care. Karen xox

Hi Lindyloo, glad that your first chemo has not gone too badly. It's understandable to be a bit stressed, and I'm sure that your closest will be very devoted to you. Sorry to hear about your mother in law, I hope that she recovers well. Take good care of yourself during your chemo, and give yourself time to recover. Warm wishes, Tracey B ??
