First Chemo done and dusted

Hi friends

A quick update on my journey.  My Medical oncologist decided on chemo and hormone therapy.  Had first chemo today,  went smoothly,  had my wonderful daughter in law and besty with me.  Had lots of laughs,  conversation,  girly talk,  had my toenails painted black to match the fingernails,  hand fed because I couldn't pick anything up with my big oven mitts on lol.  Had a great day considering what I was there for.  The nurses are and were  wonderful.  Next  cycle on the 10th Sept hope it goes as well as today.  At home feeling great,  however ready for what's to come in the next couple of days.  Have booked in for the 'look good feel better program'  looking forward to that. Had my hair cut short,  lovely pixie cut,  my hair dresser is the best.  My beautiful  daughter in law had organised my 50th Birthday party next Sat,  couple of days early as my bday falls on the 2nd mid week. It was meant to be a surprise but my silly brother slipped up,  still excited ??

Love this forum,  it's definitely a learning curve and so many wonderful,  beautiful,  strong,  brave and inspirational women to learn from  and share with.  Thanks for being here.  I hope everyone is doing ok or at least the best you can,  we are women,  we can do anything.

Love and hugs Sonya????????

  • Hi Karen

Wow you must be excited to be almost finished,  celebrations on Tues I bet so happy for you.  I started feeling tired yesterday (Sun) did the house work,  cleaned out a few cupboards by lunch time team it if energy.  Feeling so drained, will definitely take things easier today.   no nausea as yet.  My body feels like someone is trying to crush it.  Will be thinking of you tomorrow,  all the best Sonya ????

  • Hi Sonya,

Great to hear one chemo down. Hope you're not suffering too much from the nausea.  I found I was at my lowest on day 3 post chemo and had to keep the maxlon going for quite a few more days longer than I expected.  Be kind to yourself.  Rest if you need to.

I really enjoyed the Look Good Feel Better program.  I didn't get a chance to do one til after my 3rd cycle, so I was well and truly bald by then and really enjoyed the 'hair play' and scarf ideas.  The make up tips were excellent.

I have my last chemo on Tuesday! Feel like it's flown by.

    Big hugs,

    Karen xx

  • Thanks Jane,  yes the oncology staff are phenominal,  every one of them.  Cannot wait to see all the wonderful people that have supported me thus far and celebrate my bday with them.

  • Thanks Rosemary, they did warn me that the dip will come.  At present still feeling good,  holy moly that Dex certainly has me buzzing,  last dose today thank goodness until next round anyway.

    Sonya ??

  • Hi great one done look after yourself I was sooo tired with my chemo my husband used to laugh at me because I would just drop off. Enjoy the look good program lots of fun Happy birthday 50 it comes around fast enjoy your partyxx

  • Hi Sonya,

now you can tick off the first round off your calendar. I can still remember my first one. I only felt the impact on my 3 or 4th day in my first round and then they got better from 2nd round on. I even went to work throughout though tired at times. So they will get better if you feel the impact in this first round in a few days.

i went to Feel Good and Look Good workshop and enjoyed it very much. I learned the trick of looking good is put on foundation which I never did before. Now I use it when I want to show I am well. Enjoy the workshop.

    All the best.

  • Hi Sonya, glad to hear that your first chemo went well and hope that the next few days are as trouble free as possible. The oncology nurses are beautiful, and although no-one looks forward to chemo, the care and support they give certainly made my time with them much enjoyable than I could have imagined.

Enjoy the Look Good Feel Better program, it is great fun and you do pick up lots of great, handy hints (for treatment and beyond) and it sounds as though you've got a great party to look forward to. Jane xx

Well done Sonya, once you get that first chemo done it is less daunting, and the oncology staff are so wonderful. Here's hoping that you have minimal side effects. Take care, Trace ??????
