Cost of private radiotherapy

Hi Louise64 - I had my radiotherapy in the public system - going private wasn't even discussed - even though I have private health cover & I work in a private hospital.  I've got to say the staff  were great - did both chemo & radiotherapy at same location and they couldn't have been better.  My radiotherapy appointments were scheduled in as late in the day as they could so i could continue working - not sure I would of got anything better by paying for it.  It comes down to what you feel most comfortable with.  Good luck

Thank you for all the information! I have appointment next week to discuss my treatment- probably 6 weeks- and options for public or close by at Private with payment plan. Feel much better about whole process now. Again thank you for your generosity in sharing. 💗💗💗💗

At Genesis Care, St Vincent's clinic, Sydney. Total cost is around $28K of which Medicare pays 80%. I really like and trust my radiotherapy oncologist and this is where she works. Also the entire team there are excellent.I have to travel a long distance and value that I can specify the appointment time.

In Covid times I also like to be in the private clinic.

Just wanted to see how you are going? I’m bit nervous- had surgery last week and see my surgeon tomorrow for referral to radiotherapy oncologist. Today is first time since diagnosis I had a good cry. Just a bit overwhelmed at moment that it’s all real. I’m positive everything will be fine but start radiotherapy in 3 weeks for 6 weeks.

I have had 25 days of radiotherapy here in the SW of WA which counts as regional and I haven't paid a cent, even though I have private health fund.  I have had mine with Global Diagnostics, probably a good idea to phone around

Thank you that’s good to know . We are discussing radiotherapy and radiotherapy this Weds. I’m just happy it’s going to plan at the moment 🌸

@Louise64 I had all treatment in public system. A friend at same time went private. Exactly the same treatment. My radiation oncologist gave me a tube of the precious Strata ointment, which lasted for the whole period.

Dear  Louise64, That's great news. Hopefully that will relieve some stress. Paperwork can be annoying, but worth it.

Thanks - yes I’m applying for income protection this week when I see surgeon. I have exhausted all sick pay. So lucky to be able to access.
