Hi @CathyMac and thank you for the tag @Emie .
You are not vain, everybody thinks that. It's not vanity its annonymity and normality.
You are lucky they were positive about it. Some onc's are not and dismiss it without even giving people the chance to try.
The cold cap is no where near as horrendous as what it is made out to be. Yes, it's freakin cold and the first time is a bit of a shock. Think ice cream brain freeze x 10. It only lasts a couple of minutes. You just grit your teeth and go to a happy place and then it settles and your fine.
If you are worried you may be able to take a sedative before hand. i didn't need to but some people choose to do that.
I had little problems after the first time as I knew what to expect and it got easier as I went along.
It does at a bit extra time, but that didn't bother me at all. It wasn't like I was going to go out and play a game of tennis afterwards anyway. So an extra hour or so was no big deal. Besides, comfy chair, warm blankets, music, TV food....what more could you want right?
If it's going to work, the first time is the make or break so you really need to know how to fit it properly yourself just to double check. Most nurses are good but it's not their hair. If the top doesn't fit properly it won't work well..
Give me a pm if you want any more specific info.
Was it worth it ??? Hell yes.
