chemo
Hi. I am new to this website. Had surgery last Wed. Wide local excision and axillary clearance. Still cant believe I have been dealt this blow! Im 38 years old with 2 young kids and supportive husband.
I get my results on Wed and expect to be told that I will need chemotherapy.
Just wondering if theres is anyone from Melbourne and any experiences with chemo. Did you choose where to have it? Public or private? Anybody been to the Olivia Newton John centre at the Austin Hospital? I live in the northern suburbs. Any info at all would be most appreciated!

Hi Di,
I just wanted to jump in and say welcome to the online network. If you need a hand finding your way around just shout.
Also if you are looking to connect online as well as face-to-face you might want to have a look at the online directory where you can search for support and services around your area: http://www.bcna.org.au/directory/listing
Good luck and just shout if you need a hand finding your way around.

Hey Di
Hi sweely and welcome but so sorry that you have to be on this journey so young. As Tanya says your strength will shine through and help you through this journey.
I haven't been to Melbourne as of yet but I am looking forward to visiting your lovely City for a BCNA course in April.
Keeping everything crossed that you don't have to go through chemo but should it be necessary then just remember it is doable........Hopefully you have received your "My Journey Kit" from this site by ordering it online. There is also a post called "what has helped you through this journey" which you can search and find. It was orignally started by a young inspirational member and it has been so worthwhile to me and so many other pink sisters. I hope it is a help to you.
You will definitely receive as much support as you need or want when you need or want it. We will be here for your.
Thinking of you and wishing you all the best. Lots of love, Mich xoxo

- TanyaMemberHi Di Sorry I m not in your area and cannot offer any advice on hospitals:( I was diagnosed in 2007 at the age of 36, I had a bi lateral mast with reconstruction, then chemo and then hormone therapy for 5 years which is coming to the end very shortly. I have just had my ovaries removed last Tuesday and hopefully that is the last of my cancer treatment. Chemo is doable, my children were 2 and 4 at the time and we had to travel for treatment, but I look back now and think how brave I was and what a great life after treatment I have, Good luck hon. Tan xx

Thanks Janet for your reply and info. Yes it is hard having to go through this being young. I am only just beginning this journey, and hopefully I get through it like you have. I am assuming you have finished chemo and radiotherapy.
Its nice to have this website available. I have some very supportive friends, but only someone who is or has gone through this can really understand how I am feeling.
Thanks again, Di
