Most of time we limit our chatting to when we walk you in and out of the room.
Once your set up in position we try not to talk to you because inadvertently this causes movement and we are trying to set you up to the millimetre. If you are chatting to the therapist on your right you might without realising turn your head that way which may cause your shoulder to move, which can turn your torso which undoes the levelling we have just perfected on you. Meaning we have to start again, meaning more time you are in your exposed vulnerable position.
Also we often take our cues from the patient, as you can imagine we see patients in varying degrees of this disease and sometimes they don't want to chat. Our friendly "how has your morning been?" can be met with a snappy "well I've got to come here how do think I feel". Other times we get to know a patient and they tell us stories of their children and it's a lovely relationship for the 4-6 wks.
I'm sorry your radiation experience isn't going the way I like to think my patients receive in my department xx
