AC Chemo - Day 1
Day 1 of Chemo finally here. Known it would come for a long time now as diagnosed 2.5 months ago, surgery 1.5 months ago and oncologist appointment 1 month ago but in a weird way it is not until I sa...
Thank you for that great advice Kath :)
I have used movicol years back pre major surgery when I had a large ovarian tumor pressing on my bowls so have a box ready at home as I figured this is as light as one can go in terms of contipation meds.
And thank you suggesting steroid extensions as I was already going to ask them to keep me on them longer and to go off them very gradually as I usually wean off them very slowly so now I am definitely going to insisit on that bit.
I started to feel a bit queezy pretty quickly - not to mention burping and I NEVER EVER burp (a bit of a freak like that that I cannot even make my self burp when I need it - when unwell) but burping did finally happen...
Was just contemplating talking to them about the increasing nausia but thought I would try to walk it off (that is when burping set in so walking definitely helped). Did not stop it and I then tried 'self medicating' with grapefruit (I know lemon helps but I only had some apples and grapefruit so figured grapefruit might help). I am happy to report sucking on segments while walking (and I did walk a whole hour doing that) WORKED 100%.
Watching me walk up and down the corridors sucking segments of grapefruit had the whole nursing pretty much crack up with laughter that whole hour (and there was an odd weirded out visitor or staff member in the other areas of the hospital probably wondering what was wrong with me walking arround with grapefruit hanging out of my mouth - but their facial expressions amuzed me so all good)
I am so stocking up on grapefruit as I figured it can only go downhill from here in coming days. And since I did have a bit of reaction when they injected me with antinosia meds I want to try reduce amount I need to be on.
I have noticed a lot of sensitivity to light and early stages of a migraine but managed to manage that so far without resorting to meds.
All in all I reckon they will discharge me this morning so looking forward to going home and having a nice long shower as i trully hate Hospital bathrooms and this one is sadly still in stone age as far as fascilities go as the whole ward shares 4 toilets and 3 showers and every time I need to walk in there I think of hospital grade infections.
They have trully the most amazing staff but they need some serious funding to come out into the 1980-1990s (do not want to dream they would get enough funding to be brought into this century). It is very sad to see the state of this hospital ??
