About to start!

Heading into Brisbane in the morning to have a portacath in. Then Tuesday is first day of chemotherapy.  Feeling a bit iffy about the whole process and not looking forward to the suggested side effects.

  • Hi Kazza,

I am on the same regime as you. I have 2/6 rounds to go. my side effects have been mostly very tolerable. I did have a bad first round however, ended up in hospital with mucositis (sore mouth) and related infection. I have religiously sucked ice cubes now during taxotere infusion and havent had a problem. The hospital didnt offer me ice on the first round so you might want to enquire or take your own, but everyone is different it seems.

I hope your treatment goes as good as it can. dont hesitate to make contact if you have any questions or just want to vent.

  • It's a scary process, but I am sure that you will find that it's not what you expect. We are all so different,in our reactions, but with the medication available these days, and the support that you will get on here, you will do just fine.Listen to the advice that others give,if they have done it before you,and take the offers of help that come your way,so as you can concentrate on you, over the coming weeks.Chemo is cumulative,so even if you feel great the first round, you might find,as time goes on,that you will feel more fatigued.Stay in touch:) Cheers xoxRobyn
