1st round of chemo finished

Here's just a little update.
On Thursday leading up to the first of 6 month chemo sessions I was very scared and I could not stop crying but during the process when I calmed down it wasn't painful or as uncomfortable as I had thought but still not nice. Thursday afternoon, yesterday and today I am still quite drowsy and nauseous, thank goodness for medication or it would be worse, but good thing is 1 down 15 to go I'm just hoping it gets easier.

Does the nausea get better as the sessions go on or is it for the entire time?

Thanks Nicole xx

  • Hi Nicole, so sorry to hear you are feeling so nauseous.  I just finished four rounds of FEC and I did find that my side effects did vary.  I also found eating a little often helped with the nausea.  I found that eating grapes really helped. I had a small bunch of grapes beside my bed which I nibbled on during the night.  Probably not the best for my teeth but it was only for the first couple nights and I drank water to which hopefully helped wash the grape juice. All the best for your treatment.  I found it did get a little easier with each treatment as I knew what to expect and how to best deal with it.  Cheers, Lorraine

  • Deanne and Kylou76 thank you so much for your replies and suggestions. I am drinking as much as I can and have already added cordial to the water because of the water taste I am trying to keep up eating as much as I can, watermelon, cucumber and banana paddle pops have been good. I had cereal for breakfast and a boiled egg, yogurt and some pear for lunch and some tablets with the green lid (Pramin) and I have just taken 2 more.   My chemo treatment is AC2+T Part 1 Doxorubicin and Cyclophosphamide once every 3 weeks for 3 months then Part 2 is Paclitaxel every week for 12 weeks. It's nearly dinnertime and I do not want anything but I will try some veges.

Thanks again for your suggestions and I hope you are doing well too. Nicole xx

  • Hi Nicole,

I too had FEC and Docetaxel  like Deanne, and every time my side effects were different. I was also more nauseous with the FEC. The best advise I could give you is to drink lots of fluid, while your having chemo and for the next 2 - 3 days. After about my second chemo I couldn't stand the taste of water so I had a little cordial in it. My oncologist nurse told me it's best for the drug to get in, do it's job and get out as quickly as possible, so flushing your system is important. I found that eating helped with my nausea, that and the green lid tablets. Just make sure you tell your oncologist about all your symptoms so that they can help you.

    All the best xx

  • Hi Nicole

So sorry you are feeling the nausea. I found it helped to eat a little of whatever I felt like (sometimes strange things that I did not normally eat!) quite often. I had nausea worse with one type of chemo (FEC) than with the second (Docetaxel). It will pass but make sure you let your doctor know and they might give you some different medication to try and improve things for you next time. I found that the side effects were a little bit different each time. Hopefully you will start to improve in the next day or two. Rest up. Deanne xxx
