1st Chemo, 1st Port Use. Streiod and hunger?

Hi ladies,

I had my 1st FEC chemo yesterday! Was not too bad. The use of the port made it so much easier and the nurses were happy too!

Felt so good leaving hubby and I decided to have lunch at the Wild Fig. My eyes were bigger then my stomach and I think I paid for it later with feeling very nauseous and horribble meaning I spent the evening laying in bed. Once I worked out the tablets and got them on board i was able to rest.

Slept ok with a refill on tablets at 1am.

One surprised feeling  I am having is the hunger! Is this from the steriods? Have not really felt hungry for a while but today I could eat all day!

Wishing everyone a fabulous weekend!

Vx

  • Welcome to steroid territory I never had stomach issues but gee I ate like a horse all bad stuff I finished chemo in January thank goodness I found that I had to take the 3 after infusion at 6am just to sleep by 10pm I went from 60 kilos back then to 65 after chemo finished I went down at worst to 51 then now 58 which I like much love with your journey xx

  • Never had FEC - I am on my 1st AC now but also was super hungry day 1 and 2 and yes steroids can make you so ravenously hungry that you cannot beleve it. Been taking steroids in the past for other conditions and when on them hungry as can be...

By the way one thing that helps with nausea is lemon so half a lemon squeezed into a glass of cold water may help you :)

Another 'aid' I found the day of my chemo is munching on grapefruit. I found it gave me complete relief from nausea and did not even need the antinausea meds they wanted me to take that night (I had to be admitted for my 1st Chemo).

    All the best

Hi Nessie, the cortisone can make you feel hungry, and sometimes it gets mixed up with feeling thirsty. Make sure that you sip on water during the day, and I found that eating a boiled egg helped appease the hunger, must be the protein. Hope that this helps, Trace ????????

  • On FEC I oscilated between nausea and hunger, I think it was the steroids.  Plus eating often and not being hungry helps with nausea.  The nausea went with good medication and time.  Good luck in your journey, it will be over soon.  Karen
