5 sleeps to go!
Hi girls.....was doing my best to pretend none of this has been happening. Life as usual! But now I have 5 sleeps to go til I have my mastectomy. I havn't been sleeping well at all so I got some natural sleeping tablets. Restavit. 2 nights of these and am feeling a bit better.
Decisions were so tough for me. What type of reconstruction???? I have already had radiation so not sure how skin will go but am trying first up for a skin sparing mastectomy with a tissue expander. They will know if my nipple will survive within 10 mins and then the skin in about 3 weeks. If this is unsuccessful the lot comes off and I will go a tram flap in the future.
I have my ups and downs but after waiting for 6 weeks since diagnosis, I just want it over. Was hoping it would have all gone away....wishful thinking.

I had my mastectomy 10 days ago. Yes I was nervous and extremely scared in pre op room but so glad I did it. I just wanted the cancer out of my body. I only had two nodes removed and I was out of hospital in two days. I wore the breast pads with bra that you get from Berlei on day 3. That made me feel Better. Somehow you get this strength from nowhere it is hard to explain. I wish you well on the day!

- When I had lumpectomy,chemo,radiation I seemed to think it was a speed bump in my life that I had to get over and move on.... Although a pretty big speed bump it was!!! However when I had a recurrence and then the mastectomy it was a whole new ball game. More chemo, no boob!!! I must say though that the no cancer once it was off was a big bonus;). It's taken me two years of research to get to where I am. Ready for the big op. If only Louie's reconstruction page was there then. It is such a good research tool. Photos are very powerful. I intend to add to it after my op so I can help others as she has. Good luck. Will be thinking of you this week. Paula :)

Stay strong and brave Carolyn. Hope you are coping ok with the chemo. Hoping mine is contained and dont have to go down that path. Time will tell.

What a top site this is. I too wish I looked into it 6 years ago after my lumpectomy and radiation. Maybe I was a lot braver that time. Boobie coming off now seems a bit bigger adventure to take in. Keep in touch!!

Loving the hugs thanks Mich. Yes I am in the BR group run by Louise. It gave me loads of help with decision making. Thought I would of slept in today but of course not.....its Sunday. And a beautiful one at that. Enjoy

Been up for a bit and reading through some posts. The support is amazing and such feelgood stuff. I went to a family bbq and then to a 40th last night. Let me tell you, I had the girls out!!!! Have a wonderful Sunday.

- Wishing you all the best for your upcoming surgery. It is scary and we have all been there. There is lots of support by amazing ladies on here. I wish I had hung around here a lot earlier than I did. I am awaiting my Diep/tram following my original mastectomy 2 years ago. Only 2 months to go, mixed emotions. Scared and excited to finally be moving on. I really hope your surgery is a success, but if not go to plan B. At least you hav options. The breast reconstruction group is fabulous. Good luck. - Hi Kel, I would almost be positive in saying that all on here know exactly how you are feeling at the moment. So just know that even at times when you feel alone you will never be on here. Once your surgery is done & you know in which direction your reconstruction will go I am sure you will feel better within yourself & the decisions will come easier. I had a right mastectomy in May & am currently undergoing chemo & will have radiation in January. I am looking into reconstruction along the tram/DIEP pathway & as Mich said above join the Breast Reconstruction group as it is very helpful.
