I have just joined BCNA today even though I was first diagnosed in early September.  I was originally diagnosed with DCIS but after the first surgery it was discovered that the BC wasn't actually "in situ" so on 23/11 went back in to have more breast conserving surgery along with a biopsy of the sentinel node.  I was given a preliminary "all clear" but given the way things have panned out I will  not believe that until I see it in writing at my review appointment with my surgeon tomorrow.  If it is clear then I have been told that I will be put on HRT and undergo 6 weeks of radiotherapy.  I am mostly struggling with anxiety but keeping my mind occupied helps.  I am also discovering the humungous out-of-pocket expenses for those with private health insurance, like we are experiencing.  We made a decision to go private mainly because we had heard horror stories about how women undergoing radiotherapy treatment for BC were sometimes waiting hours at the public facilities before going in to have their actual treatment.  I've made contact with the private facility at St. John of God Subiaco and they have assured me that there will be no waiting as you go in at the appointment time that is set for you for your treatment.  And don't get me started on the fact that a specialist in this area refuses to participate in gap cover because that subject absolutely infuriates me!
