Hello Fellow Peeps

Hello - Lovely to meet you all!  Didn't expect there would be so many of you! Didn't expect to be here - but here we are!

Thanks to BreastSceen Qld and team of pathologists - they found DCIS G#3. What an amazing group of caring people.  Next is an appoint re treatment - only 17 more days to wait - not that one needs to be impatient about such things. Ha. In any case I kind of know the options - but would love to hear from anyone regarding their treatment and recovery and choices - especially if you're a runner/jogger and  a multiple dog mum who loves 2 walks a day.  Thanks so much and take care everyone :-)

  • Hi Posi I'm so sorry you are on this journey. I was diagnosed in Nov 2024 with DCIS Grade 3 in my right breast (Breastscreen Qld too)  I had a double mastectomy (perfect choice for me as pathology found another DCIS that was undetected in my right breast. I also had immediate implants. What breed dogs do you have? We have a labrador who loves her morning walk & then play time at home of an afternoon. Please let me know if there are any specific questions you have about DCIS.  Have a notebook handy & write down any questions that pop into your mind; that way you don't have to try to remember.

Hi May2024 - Thanks so much for your post.  I think you have answered one of the questions I had or maybe 2. 😁 I had a VAB biopsy and the pathology confirmed DCIS G3  - also in my right breast!  So is there a chance that once they do surgery they could find more DCIS ? In other words obviously you chose a M - and it was after that - that pathology found more?  I guess this is why I am thinking mastectomy too - as I dread the thought of having the Lumpectomy only to find later that there is more in there - and having to go back for a mastectomy.   Could you explain how you came to decide to have a double M even though nothing was found in your left breast?  Was it the G3 or other factors ?  I realise these are very personal questions.  The biopsy also showed Her2 3+ but negative ER and PR.   I have dense breasts - this I understand is another risk factor but it doesnt say it on my report.  Did you go private or public and how long were you in hospital for the surgery?  Now onto a nicer topic... I had 3 Goldies or rather one is half lab I think.  I also just said farewell to one... arrhhgghhh   I have always loved Labs and Goldies - just beautiful - actually all dogs are..  Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post and provide your insights ... really appreciate it. πŸ•

PosiI sent you an inbox message. If you don't receive it, let me know and I'll reply here

PS - Labs and Goldies are the best ... but I do love any dog :)

  • Hi Posi so sorry you’ve received a diagnosis on the one hand, but great to have picked it up.  My type (ILC) was a bit different to yours (DCIS) but do have any information about the subtypes and whether yours is hormone receptive and/or HER2 positive? I was HER positive and hormone positive, which shaped the type of treatment, the drugs used and the duration of my overall treatment phases.

Hi Tri - Thanks for your post!  How are you going - have you had treatment for the ILC yet?  My report says ER and PR are negative in high grade DCIS but HER2 shows 3+ grade .  I have not met the Dr yet to discuss treatment so am busy learning as much as I can.   Hope its all going well for you!

  • Hi Posi

Sorry to see you join the club that no-one every thought they'd be joining πŸ™
You've found the right spot here tho, for support & info from those who've 'been there, done that'! So hopefully we'll be able to smooth the way for your own story.   Make sure you take a trusted friend or family member with you to your appointments, as a 'backup set of ears', as it is difficult remembering everything that is said.  Also, record your sessions on your phone, so you can go over it again later, for the same reason. πŸ˜‰

Mine was ILC, so different from yours - I was lucky to only have a lumpectomy, rads & tablets ....

Whack up ANY question - remember there are NO dumb questions!!! This diagnosis can really muck with your brain - so if you feel sad, angry, distressed .... ask your GP (or your treating team) for a referral to see a counsellor .... or listen to Charlotte Tottman's podcast (below).  She is a BC specialist counsellor who was diagnosed herself, had a double mastectomy and remained flat, so knows EXACTLY what we've all been thru, both emotionally and physically!  Her own reaction to her diagnosis was also quite different to what she 'thought' it might be, given that she'd been counseling women's reactions for some years before, so thought she 'new' what to expect!  She is VERY easy to listen to, too xx
Copy this heading & into the search/magnifying glass area & it should pull it up & work your way thru the podcasts.)  Raelene Boyle's video is also well worth watching!
Listening to Raelene Boyle's podcast is well worth it, as well as Charlotte Tottman's Series! | BCNA Online Network

We have HEAPS of lovely dog owners and runners here & I am sure they'll pop on and give you support & tips soon.  Anne65    My husband was a runner/triathlete who had really serious cancer surgery & he got back to competing within months of finishing chemo - just take it slowly, don't overdo it ... He was walking around the ward the day after getting out of ICU, pulling his drip trolley with him! LOL

We also have a section where you can show us pics of your Furkids!  πŸ˜€   Jump onto the thread below for a lot of info on the forum (tho the link to the Furkids thread looks 'wrong' .... here is the correct one!! Feel free to put up your favourite Furkid pics :)  What pets do you have? | Online Network  πŸ˜‰ )

There is HEAPS of info there to help you navigate the blog and also tools to evaluate your own physical and mental recovery! xx

A big welcome to all New Online Network Members ..... | Online Network
Take care & all the best for your ongoing appointments xx

Hi arpie - Thanks so much for the suggested podcasts - I will definitely have a listen. Have always been a fan of Raelene Boyle - who by the way if I remember correctly had her Golden Retriever sniff out her breast cancer!  Dogs are amazing!!   Thank you for sharing your husbands story.... very inspirational.  Wish I could take my dogs to my Dr Appointment - ha! 😁

oooh - maybe try & sneak one dog in ... as your 'Support Dog'!!  Worth a try!  πŸ˜‰
Absolutely - Raelene is positively inspirational - and just so easy to listen to (just like Charlotte Tottman.)   Yes, her retriever is always by her side!

Click on the pics below (they should open bigger in another window or even download the ones with text) to make them large enough so you can read Charlotte's story.  (Sadly, I was unable to upload the PDF!)
