Hi there,
I will be having surgery in a week - lumpectomy and breast reduction in the other breast. I am trying to prepare what I can for not only the surgery but my return home.

I have 2 primary age kids who are full of beans and 2 big dogs who love to be lap dogs. I am thinking maybe I need to create a quiet space in my bedroom and get an arm chair?
Any other tips would be very much appreciated.
I am also in the process of about to apply for income protection - it is a 90 day wait. Any suggestions with this would also be helpful.

Hi @melsev
With both your breasts having surgery, you will have restrictions of movement for a while & also not be allowed to do any housework, lifting etc until told otherwise. Make sure you don't 'accidentally' do this (by picking up your dogs or anything else that is heavy.) I'd suggest that you start cooking some meals now, to freeze, so that you have some 'ready to go' for when you get home! All your favourites
Ask your breast care nurse about support cushions for after your surgery. They really help with comfort, particularly at night.
My biggest tip would be that if family or friends offer support of any kind, be it walking the dogs or taking the kids to sport, mowing the lawns - anything - say 'Yes Please' xx. It will help you and they will also feel that they are helping you - so a win/win situation for all.
All the best for your income protection application.1 -
Hi @melsev
if you haven’t already got one my surgeon asked me to acquire a front opening soft cup bra and then to wear it 24/7 for 4-6 weeks. The nurse also gave me a small pillow shaped like a neck pillow for flights but with a tie on it so you can hang it over your shoulder and under your arm, people say this helps to stop accidental bumps in the street or supermarket.
Also you might want to ask some help from friends with lifting and things like shopping or washing if they require you to lift your arms to put things away.
My lumpectomy surgery was very straightforward and it healed up nicely; sending you all the best for yours and for your recovery ❤️🩹
My surgeon thought I should wait 6 weeks before having the next phase of treatment (radiation therapy).1
